Ah, hell....I just received a summons.
I'm required to report for jury duty in US District Court.

That's twice I've been selected for jury duty (last time it was municipal) and my boyfriend hasn't been selected once.

1. I did it this year, too. Fun! Give you cash money ($10) and let
you go. I've never gotten to hear a case yet.

7. I'm just concerned because their is a really big case coming up.
And given the nature of the crime, it won't be pleasant.

13. Or a nice padded room.
Either way, it beats the hell out of listening to weeks of monotonous blathering about the minutae of contract law or personal accident liability, which is what I had to sit through my last two times. Next time, I'm going in wearing my underpants on my head, pencils stuck up my nostrils and will only say 'wibble' no matter what I'm asked.

Now it's been almost three years, They don't call they don't write. They used me and then threw me away.

10. Until a few years ago my mom was the only person
I knew of who had ever served for jury duty (multiple times). Then I got called up and the case involved a friend's kid who was busted for graffiti. I had been my friends roomate when she was pregnant with this kid.

I was intending to say to the judge, "I have loved this kid since before he was born." Didn't get a chance to 'cause the judge just said, "If you know the defendant please raise your hand" and I and some others were dismissed from the jury.

Shucks. Yet another missed opportunity.

12. I just served last week
The defendant was a man who used the Internet (instant messages, email, personal web pages) to meet, get together, and have (unconsentual) sex with a teenage girl. The evidence against the man was pretty strong and we found him guilty. The whole thing was depressing and sad. It's amazing the personal information kids put online about themselves and how reckless they can be in getting together with complete strangers that they met only via the Internet.

It was weird to have this Foley thing come up immediately after being involved in this.

A word of advice: Wash your hands a LOT. I got really sick the day after the jury adjourned with a 24-hour stomach bug that I'm sure I got at the courthouse.

14. Did you actually serve last time?
I thought if you'd served recently in any jurisdiction you were automatically excused.

15. I want to serve!
I wish I would get called. I did get called once but I was a single parent at the time and I was working on strictly billable hours, meaning no work no pay. The judge asked if serving on a lengthy trial would be a hardship to anyone and then we had to go to his chambers and tell our story. I told them my story and they dismissed me. Then again, I wonder if it had anything to do with the fact that I was working as a PI at the time. That was at least 12 years ago and I haven't gotten called since.

"Either way, it beats the hell out of listening to weeks of monotonous blathering about the minutae of contract law or personal accident liability, which is what I had to sit through my last two times. Next time, I'm going in wearing my underpants on my head, pencils stuck up my nostrils and will only say 'wibble' no matter what I'm asked."

That's hysterical, I lost my soda on that one.
