Who gives a damn if Foley was molested as a teen?
Edited on Tue Oct-03-06 09:38 PM by shance
First off, why would anyone believe anything he says now?

It is absolutely sickening and reprensible how Republican Reynolds today exploited and used kids as props and camaflouge for his own horrendous deeds, and now Mr. Foley is pleading for our sympathy because supposedly he was molested as a teen.

This didn't seem to bother him while he was preying on other boys.

I have to add, how can we believe a pathological liar and how does that in any way connect and/or excuse him from preying on other children?

IT DOESN'T.

IF ANYTHING IT SHOULD MAKE HIM MORE EMPATHETIC TO CHILDREN.

People like Foley will lie and say anything to maintain whatever power they can, deflect attention, incite sympathy, and project blame onto others.

They are liars. And they are killing innocent people, GOOD PEOPLE, DECENT PEOPLE - both the innocent and noble Iraqis and their nation, and our children whom he is using and ultimately destroying their future and any innocense they may have had left.

3. I'm sympathetic to anyone who was molested but
Fugg Foley. His excuse does not justify his actions or every schoolchild who was bullied should be excused for school shootings.

4. See my earlier post - the andrea yates syndrome
Basically, people are making excuses for the behaviors of others, and so if the one doing the act can show they were mentally challenged due to environment they hope to be able to excuse their actions (at least, this is what I have been hearing today - see link):

5. Why do you believe his story without confirmation?
His acquaintances are saying he's lying about the alcohol. Don't you think its possible he's lying about the abuse?

Any DU'ers know Foley's background well enough to know if he was in a parish with an abusive priest? Cause if there wasn't collaborating evidence, I don't think he should be believed.

13. I think the natural next step is to request him name abuser
so that other children are not exposed (if priest is/was on the prowl) and so that other victims can come out of hiding since they're not alone.

Position it as an extension of his public service on behalf of the abused.

Like to see how he'd respond to that.

6. That makes no excuse for what he has done but
Edited on Tue Oct-03-06 09:23 PM by LynneSin
But it does bring up a very valuable point that those molested tend to turn into those molesting. Consider the gunman at the Amish School - it's coming out that he was molested and that was a horrible tragedy in a community that is extremely non-violent.

I think the only purpose should be to solidify getting these predators away from kids and to find better help for those kids who have been molested so they do not continue the cycle.

Of course that is under the condition that Foley is telling the truth about it actually happening

15. thank you...
human beings and human nature can often be a simple mathematic equation...A+B=C...to get A+B to equal something other than C...something has to be added to B...like therapy.

7. All good points but the most important is that it is still no excuse
for his behavior......it's still a crime......a covered up crime....

11. These people are shameless. They will pull any rabbit out of the hat
that they can. They don't care if they have to convert to Buddhism.

They'll do whatever to get off - and again, no pun intended*

8. he's talking to potential jurors imo, laying the groundwork for his
defense if he is to be charged with a crime. My step father beat the shit out of me for 7 years when i was a kid, i have 12 year old now and i have never once raised a hand to her or to anyone else with the exception of my step father, i almost stabbed him but something stopped me, i guess i thought i'd to jail.

12. It's not an excuse but it IS a canary in the mine shaft.
Edited on Tue Oct-03-06 09:32 PM by TahitiNut
If we're not aware of generational child abuse and the time bombs that we set in our society by attempting containment and repression, then we're doomed to have this happen over and over and over and over...
