2. I can barely breathe...so young, too young.
Jeremy R. Shank, 18,
Army Private 1st Class,
Sep 06, 2006

Shank's father, James Shank, said,
"We need to be out of there."
He said his son -
who enlisted at the age of 17 -
told his father as much in angry e-mails
and a last phone call in late August.

"He was scared and up to his elbows,"
the elder Shank said.

" He was a hell of a kid."

He was due to come home
on leave in November.

Anthony P. Seig, 19,
Army Private 1st Class,
Sep 09, 2006

"Pfc. Anthony P. Seig would have marked
his 20th birthday next week.
Instead,
the 2005 graduate of East Central High School
in St. Leon, Ind., died in Iraq
without making it out of his teens."

Sep 09, 2006
Cpl. Johnathan Benson,
of North Branch, lay in his Texas Army hospital bed,
his left leg gone, most of his left arm, too,
from midway between his elbow and shoulder.
The 21-year-old Marine had been wounded
by a roadside bomb June 17 during his second tour
of duty in Iraq.
He was in rough shape and feeling down one day,
uncharacteristic for the usually upbeat young man,
his family said.
One of his superiors visiting him that day asked him,
"John, are you still a Marine?"
"Sir! Yes, sir! I will always be a Marine!"
he responded.
"I will live as a Marine,
and I will die as a Marine!"
His mother, Marjorie Benson, recalled that scene
Sunday as she and her husband, Steve,
reminisced about their son. Johnathan Benson,
the youngest of their six children,
died from his wounds Saturday
at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.

Emily J.T. Perez, 23,
Army 2nd Lieutenant,
Sep 12, 2006

First female West Point grad killed in Iraq
After her funeral, family and friends remembered
a standout track star with strong patriotic beliefs.
She sang in a gospel choir at West Point,
donated bone marrow to a patient in need
and started a program for AIDS victims
before shipping off to war.

IV, Kenneth E Kincaid, 25,
Army Private 1st Class,
Sep 23, 2006

Kincaid had enlisted last year
because he wanted a better life for his two girls.
He and his wife, Rachel, have two daughters,
Abi, 3; and Keni, 5.
"He didn't tell us in so many words why he enlisted,
but he was married and he wanted a better career
for his family," his father, Kenneth Kincaid,
told the Georgia newspaper.
"Everyone was concerned (about the war),
but he had made up his mind
and we respected his wishes."
Kincaid didn't talk much about the war,
his father said.
But three days before his death,
Kincaid sent an e-mail to his father.
"Hi, how are you.
Everything over here is fine,"
his father recalled it saying.
"Who am I kidding?
This is terrible.
I hate seeing guys getting blown up.
I guess I am one of the lucky ones.
Thank God."

7. I know some of those people....
I knew the young woman, Alice, who cradled Tom Hurndall's head as he lay mortally wounded in occupied Gaza.. she also was with Rachel Corrie, who i never met, but knew her parents after the murder of their daughter.

I want to add my reason for walking out on Thursday. Had a picnic with these kids on 4th of July, Occupied West Bank These deserve a life without US supported terror.

That is just what I needed right now, as OCt 5th is just tomorrow.
Everyone that can, housewives, wage slaves, teenagers, kids, retired people needs to go to this protest to defy this completely morally bankrupt president and his evil chickenhawk henchmen!!!!
Irregardless of what effect it might have, make you voice heard one way or another.

9. ......
A Beatles melody has been running through
Lisa Dominguez's head ever since she learned
her father was killed Saturday in Iraq.
Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds
is the title of the song
Carlos Dominguez would sing to his little girl, now 28.
But he would always substitute "Lucy"
with her name, Lisa.
He used to personalize that song for me,"
she said Tuesday.
"He was a very loving man.
When he gave,
he gave with his whole heart."

...that was so moving and so emotional.

The pictures of the families were gut wrenching.

Thank you for bringing this to DU, and for sharing the music and the pictures.

Amazing.

16. What an awesome picture.
A man who looks at a small child with such respect is a man who sees beyond the moment into the soul of the future.

the March in San Francisco tomorrow or not - especially as it is raining. After viewing that, I can't not go - thank you.
