13. Nah, Mozilla is an offshoot of Netscape :) - though Netscape the company

kind of disolved, and the Netscape browser is from Mozilla or AOL or something ... um... where was I? Actually, I'm a little unclear on what is going on right now, since I don't use it, but in one sense, "Netscape" is ancestor of Mozilla and FireFox.

2. Yes, I use it and like it.
Netscape had a rough patch some years ago but is now built on a Mozilla base and works well.

6. I'm presently using IE7 rc1
I've tried firefox and opera and really didn't like either. I don't read much about netscape here and I wondered if maybe I should give it a run for its money or something like that.

26. I've always used Netscape. Use Netscape 7.2...and was thinking of
trying the new 8. But, am comfortable with it so might just stick with the version I have.

4. Wow. Bill Gates will be glad to hear you ask that question.
Netscape was the company that produced the first big-selling internet browser, Navigator, which was crushed in the market by Microsoft's Internet Explorer.

25. Oh please...
Crushed in the market by MS?

They just had a poor strategy. Their strategy involved taking MS to court to make everyone love their browser.

The reason Firefox is successful is because the team that made it, made it a success. They didn't try to litigate success out of MS.

27. I didn't say they had a good stategy.
I'm not an MS-hater. Just thought it was funny that people nowadays have to ask what Netscape was.

5. A browser I haven't used in years... I don't know how it is today...
Edited on Tue Oct-03-06 11:24 PM by Tom Yossarian Joad
But here's a percentage breakdown of the browsers used on one of my my sites...

MS Internet Explorer 58.9 %
Firefox 30 %
Safari 7 %
Netscape 1.6 %

Pretty typical.

10. Not that I actually know anything, but I've been using Netscape for 5 yrs.
I absolutely loathed IE -- always freezing and crashing. I switched to Netscape and have been quite happy with it.

It's not that big a deal to switch browsers -- you can still go back to what you already have installed if you don't like the new one.

14. I'm a long time firm believer in Netscape.
I have used it for years now. They did have a year there where that certain version kept crashing, but the next version fixed it and it's been smooth sailing ever since.

18. I use Mozilla which was the next step of Netscape
I like both because they come with an email program.

For example, if I find an interesting page, I go to File and select Send Page. I have no idea how I would do this even with Firefox.

19. File > Send link
I think sending a link is better than sending the whole page. It's more polite to the recipient and has less chance of being blocked by a spam filter.

22. Generally true
I send them to close friends who I know would want them and... often these are pages for which one needs to be registered if they click on a link.

One alternative is to just copy and paste, of course.

21. SAFARI FIREFOX
Use web html standards, Microsoft generally writes their own.

that bugs me.

I generally use my macs for work, but I game on a PC, and since I stopped using IE (3 years ago) I get 99% less spyware, and adware, the only time I seem to get it is when I use windows update, which by default, uses IE.

Yes I only get spyware by only going to microsoft's web site using their browser.

How Lame.

Holy cow I feel old! (only 37)
I remember all the work it took my friends and I to set up Mosaic on my computer in late 1993. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mosaic_%28web_browser%29
Part of the problem was finding an ISP that also offered the WWW.

We used to pick up the free computer magazines because in the back pages they listed actual web sites! We would go down the list and see what each one looked like. I was so happy when I discovered the Webcrawler search engine in those pre-Yahoo days...
Great memories!
