The official "give Mark Foley a break thread"
I know that they wouldn't do it for one of ours. I know that he is a perv, and worse, a hypocrite.

One perv will only go so far in the news cycle; lets continue to keep a collective eye on the entirety of the neo-con strategy failure.

The failure of the pnac / neo-con strategy is the ultimate vote getter for the Dems.

disclaimer - I haven't followed the foley story that close. I don't know if he was bangin log cabin boys or just sending icky emails.

... you clearly are out of touch with mainstream America. This sex scandal, if the media doesn't bury it, will cost the Repugs more than any failed war.

but time will tell.

Either way, if the GOP goes down due to a sex scandal, or for war crimes, I will be satisfied. More so, if the later causes their decline.

7. I disagree. This story has legs.
The whiff of cover-up, and the desperate finger-pointing by the GOP leadership will keep this story in the news for a while.

This story lurid and entertaining. It is easy for voters to understand. It offends the Republican family-values base. And perhaps most importantly, it reinforces our message of GOP arrogance and corruption.

Every day this story continues, the Republicans lose more supporters.

18. Yes and its a great way to start
It's a great tool to open conversations with people that you may have never been able to influence before. Use this issue the right way and the people you speak with will be more interested in hearing the other issues that you know. Remember, a lot of people are just now waking up from a long 6 year slumber.

...pointing out another failure, sooner or later people are going to have to know what the Democrats will do better. I would think that's the ultimate goal.

19. But The Hook Is Essential If The Line & Sinker Are Expected To Work
Edited on Wed Oct-04-06 08:09 AM by Binka
This is EXACTLY the segue into ALL the major stories of the last 6 years. Every last one of the GOPs failures can be approached when one begins with the Foley Epic. It is truly POETIC JUSTICE that one of the GOP henchmen of the coup of 2000 has brought the beast to it's knees. PUN INTENDED!

No break for Foley, I would submit that he actually gave the DEMOCRATIC PARTY one. And never forget what the media and government did to Clinton on a manufactured bunch of hooey and outrage. The country has a legitimate and necessary GRIPE with the illegal and immoral shaft we have been given for 6 LONG FUCKING YEARS.

The GOP pigfuckers ALL knew what Foley was doing they just forgot to care. It is a requisite for joining the GOP one must check ones humanity in at the door.

NO BREAK.

15. This is a perfect opportunity to engage people in discussion
by starting with Foley - the lack of the leadership to do anything - then stating how many repunks have had to resign and indicted and convicted - Cunningham, Ney, Delay and how we are spending 2 billion a week in Iraq that they lied us into this "war" - that they have single handedly looted the treasurey - that we are in debt like 10 TRILLION dollars - DOUBLE what we were when this freak took office - and that they were warned time and time and time agian about 9/11 and DID nothing and finally end with we can not AFFORD to have single party government and have got to elect the Dems to majority in Congress

I have had that discussion several times in the past few days with folks who are not so tuned in to politics - and it is fairly non threatening to them - and hard for them to argue with. Foley scandal is a PERFECT water cooler topic that can give us an opportunity to bring in all the other shit too - this is a gift folks USE IT.....

17. Respectfully disagree - A LOT
I won't look a gift horse in the mouth and I intend to use this as the starting point to discuss other more important issues that this country faces. The Foley debacle is a symptom of a larger problem and this matter has grabbed national attention because of the cover-up . I have been able to discuss this issue with several non-political people and even some on-the-fence Republicans that have just had enough. Foley was an effective ice-breaker to help me have a conversation that I probably would have never had otherwise with these same people.

Sometimes you have to take what you have been given and use it in a clever way for it to work in the way you want it. Try it, I think you'll find you will get more out of using Foley as an opening to get to the issues that you feel important.

27. Sorry, but no
This story not only has legs, but it has the potential to sweep many important 'Pugs into its net and send them all home in disgrace. It means that the Dems are going to have an easier time of it this fall, since these sorts of incidents have a tendency to keep the 'Pugs fundy base at home, sitting on their hands rather than voting. And finally, it is opening up all sorts of races that were previously considered a 'Pug lock. And finally, it keeps the 'Pugs reacting to each new scandal, rather than being able to campaign on other issues.

And frankly I think that Republican pedophilia needs to be brought out into the open. It's been a fairly open secret for decades now that many 'Pugs like a little underage boy action on the side, high time that the whole sordid mess was drug out into the light of day. Remember Poppy Bush's Whitehouse, and midnight tours with underage male prostitutes? That's just the tip of the iceberg.

So let this story play out, and let the chips fall where they may. It can only be good news for the Democrats.

28. "One perv will only go so far in the news cyle."
Okay, let me repeat this one more time:

"_One perv will only go so far in the news cycle._"

I think I just died laughing. Does anyone remember that little news item that completely dominated the latter half of Clinton's administration? Something involving oral sex with an intern? Took a little while for that one to blow over, didn't it? The Foley case is the frickin' silver bullet for Repubs. The only thing worse for them than this would be for the connection between Dubya and Gannon (and I mean that literally) to become public. And with the skeleton closets flying open in Foley's wake, it's not guaranteed that that won't happen anyway. A gay sex scandal will stick to the GOP and burn like napalm, and the most beautifully ironic part is that it's entirely due to the culture they created.

29. Iraq and the economy set the stage...
...but it's the Foley sex scandal and cover-up that will now cement voter perception right through Election Day. Anyone on the fence is going into the Democrats' column or not voting, period.

If any Republican voters were thinking about holding their noses and reluctantly voting for their congressional candidates, they're not anymore: they're staying home.

Assuming the Democrats don't fall down in their GOTV efforts, they are going to have a very, very big day. The only question that remains is HOW big.
