Freeper: "The USA has NOTHING to apologize for."

The real deal is there in country in uniform. They are the ones who care. They are the ones putting their lives on the line to help save Iraq. Right now volunteer Americans are in Iraq on a mercy mission. It is compassion for strangers in a hostile country. The USA has NOTHING to apologize for.

If Iraq fails and falls under the heels of scumbags AGAIN, it will be because too many Iraqi sat around bitching instead of doing something to help.

5. The problem is that that's a pretty compelling argument
Take it in another context - Did Confederate Civil War Soldiers believe that they were fighting to protect Slavery? No, they clearly didn't - they believed they were fighting to protect their lands from northen encroachment. Does that mean the civil war had nothing to do with Slavery? As pleasing as this answer might be to some, it's clear that those southern leaders who pushed the country into the Civil War were doing it in order to preserve their right to own human beings.

We have the same problem here - I don't think our soldiers are over there thinking "God let's oppress the hell out of this people." I suspect many if not most of them believe they are there to help (obviously there are some huge exceptions to this). They want to believe they are helping people, and their families do too. So that's what they believe.

Hard to get around, I suppose.

7. Sorry, no. The troops don't believe they are in Iraq to "help".

(snip)

The wide-ranging poll also shows that 58% of those serving in (Iraq) say the U.S. mission in Iraq is clear in their minds, while 42% said it is either somewhat or very unclear to them, that they have no understanding of it at all, or are unsure. While 85% said the U.S. mission is mainly "to retaliate for Saddam’s role in the 9-11 attacks," 77% said they also believe the main or a major reason for the war was "to stop Saddam from protecting al Qaeda in Iraq."

(snip)

I know it it is hard to believe, but you read right: 85% of our troops believe they are in Iraq "to retaliate for Saddam’s role in the 9-11 attacks", and 77% think Saddam was in cahoots with al Qaeda. Both of these beliefs are obviously, categorically false. How could this happen?

6. Save Iraq? I thought we were there for this reason, among others,
....fight them over there so we don't have to fight them there. I didn't know we were helping to save Iraq? I don't think the Iraqis believe we are saving them. :wow: I wish these people would make up their minds. Which is it? :spank:
