Renold's chief of staff lawyers up
Fordham said that Reynolds instructed him to tell Foley that he needed to resign.

The NRCC wrote Foley's resignation letter, which was transferred to Foley's stationery and signed by the congressman during a gathering at his house that included Fordham and Foley's sister, who has been his closest friend and political advisor.
...
Fordham's lawyer, former federal prosecutor Tim Heaphy, said Tuesday that Fordham would be forthcoming when investigators interviewed him about Foley.

The aide's attempt to ask ABC not to publish or air the instant messages was not an effort to withhold the information from law enforcement, Heaphy said.

"It was never an attempt to obstruct justice," Heaphy said. "It was an attempt to shield his boss from the political storm."

1. Talk about a circular firing squad
Everyone is pointing their fingers. Reynolds says that he never gave Kirk Fordham permission for Kirk to talk to Foley, his former boss. Fordham says Reynolds tells him to tell Foley that he needs to resign.

This story justs keeps getting better and better.

When will people learn, it is always the coverup.

2. My, my, my. Second string already hiring lawyers.
Interesting. Not exciting, as long as BushCo and Gonzales control investigations, but interesting.

3. But, but but
didn't he deny that he had tried to pressure ABC? I hope Brian Ross' producers have Fordham on tape. This gift keeps on giving.

This one said that he was trying to protect Foley from a political firestorm. The one I linked to says that he was trying to spare Foley's family (parents and sister) from the lurid details. Now, is his sister was there when this went down, and was his political advisor, don't you think she would want to know the lurid details so she could advise him as to his next move?

Something really stinks about this part of the spin.
