Katie Couric's newscast falls to third place.
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/06277/727086-237.stm

(Lisa de Moraes, The Washington Post)

"CBS's Katie Couric-anchored newscast has fallen to third place in a three-way race for viewers among the broadcast evening newscasts, ..."

"The multimillion-dollar campaign to launch Couric as anchor of the perennially third-place "CBS Evening News" delivered two weeks in which Couric's was the most-watched newscast. It opened with more than 10 million viewers and settled -- not unexpectedly -- down to about 7.9 million the second week.

Couric's slide continued in Week 3; she finished in second place with about 7.7 million viewers, behind perennial evening news winner Brian Williams, who logged about 8.2 million on NBC."

Who didn't see this coming???

I've been boycotting CBS Evening News since her first evening on the job but I did break down and watched her Monday evening only because I missed the ABC World News. SHE IS BAD (as in lousy bad)!!! A journalistic featherweight.

4. Latest stats to come out today.
However, preliminary numbers suggest that she has fallen to third place (7.5 million viewers).

5. Actually in ratings it's all about demographics
Edited on Wed Oct-04-06 11:47 AM by WI_DEM
I don't think they thought that she would be #1 permanently, what they wanted to see more than anything is increases in key demographics. If they see this happen (and these numbers don't tell this) they will keep her around and feel she is worth it. Time will tell.

8. perennial evening news winner Brian Williams
Brian Williams isn't much better as far as I'm concerned. I wish he would decide whether he wants to be a newsman or an entertainer. The way he conducted himself on the couple Late Night w/Conan O'Briens I've seen him on and then his recent appearance on SNL make me think he'd be more comfortable as a stand-up comic or something. I used to like him but I can't stand him now.

10. Media ratings systems suck
do those numbers look just made up to anyone else? Probably a sampling of 300 people and they extrapolated for the general population.
