Very good advice from a former DUer:

Why did Clinton Scandals blow up while Bush scandals blow over?
Edited on Mon Feb-14-05 07:40 PM by Walt Starr

It's simple, my friends. We, the liberals, have failed to learn from history.

The reichwingnuts latched onto anything and everything with Clinton and pounded and pounded and pounded unrelentlessly day and night. They never LET it blow over until it eventually blew up.

Whitewater started getting pounded on day and night before Clinton even took office. Eventually, it blew up into Zippergate.

That's our problem. We give up and stop pounding the issues.

It's time to start bringing it ALL back up and throwing it ALL into the MSM faces and pound the living shit out of every last bit of the crap these bastards have been getting away with for more than four years!

POUND THE SHIT OUT OF THESE BASTARDS! THAT'S WHAT THEY DID TO CLINTON AND IT'S THE ONLY WAY WE TAKE DOWN BUSH!!!!

MANGATE DIES WHEN WE LET IT DIE!!!

He was talking about the Gannon/Guckert revelation at the time but this definitely applies now with the Mark Foley situation. Don't you agree?

Edited on Wed Oct-04-06 05:18 PM by calimary
And then pound it SOME MORE. We have to do it on the front lines and in the trenches, because we don't have that nice, convenient echo chamber of hate radio and Pox "news" to advance it and repeat and catapult the propaganda for us. WE have to do it.

It needs to be said, read, and SPREAD.

And as Dr. Fate would say - make sure you add "...makes you wonder WHAT ELSE they're covering up..."

Besides - figure it this way: our letting it drop is exactly what the bad guys hope we'll do. Whatever they want us to do we should do PRECISELY the opposite.

Last time I checked, those DEMS can get on TV pretty easily- we see at least one of them every week.

The media would not have been able to cover-up any scandal mentioned in this thread if, as the OP suggests, ALL DEMS with media access had kept discussing the facts on TV and injecting them into the echo chamber.

25. It is good advice - but -
1) They focused on the one scandal out there at a time.

2) Every day, literally, there is something new to get outraged about from Team Bush & his rubberstamp Congress (Remember the Ehime Maru? How about the new flyers at the Grand Canyon that said it was created by Noah's Flood? Bush slipping in the mud of Crawford when it hadn't rained there in 9 days?)

3) They have a much greater ability to get their message out than we do - If something hits Limbaugh at noon, it then makes all the other hate radio that day, then it's in Fox News & CNN that night, the Washington Times & NY Post the next morning, and presto it makes the "mainstream" media and is soon in the NY Times, the network evening news, etc

It tooks us weeks - thousands of emails and letters to the editor, petition drives, phone calls, etc. to get some media coverage of the Downing Street Memo.

Same thing when you compare "The Reagans" to "Path to 9/11" - one inaccurate line in the Reagans spelled doom for that miniseries... yet, Path was full of lies and still aired.

33. Wrong- top DEMs REFUSED to discuss the Downing Street Memo.
Edited on Wed Oct-04-06 03:52 PM by Dr Fate
Prove me wrong- show me the multiple TV clips where Hillary, Kerry, Dean, Obama, Reid, etc made the DSM a top issue.

I recall that we all watched each interview during that time, waitng for some top DEM to say something, anything, about the DMS- it was barely even brought up by our leadership- certainly not hammered at like "Monica", etc

As I recall, the DEM strategists called it "old news" and claimed that "this kind of talk makes us look weak on defense"

The OP is right- if top, household name DEMs would go on TV and repeat, repeat, repeat, facts about GOP scandals, the meida would have a harder time ignoring them.

No one is stopping top, household name DEMS with media access from discussing ANY scandal mentioned in this thread- whcih is the OP's point.

37. I agree with that
We definitely need more coordination in our talking points, but, was all that information available to our leaders in Congress? Sometimes, I think these folks live in something of a bubble.

They should have been informed on the topic, but it took us months just to get Conyers to hold a hearing in the basement. Did Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, Hillary Clinton, Harry Reid, etc know the details of the DSM from day 1?

Edited on Wed Oct-04-06 04:04 PM by Dr Fate
Yes- they knew about it. They have "Google" on their computers as does the average DUer. They knew about it enought to say it was "old news" and that it would "make us look weak on defense" to make it an issue.

They knew about it enough to make vague references to it to the internet only activists/choir- but rarely or never in TV interviews.

Stop making excuses- WE knew about it, the foreign press knew about it- DEMS refused to discuss it b/c they were following a misguided strategy or they were too frightened to start a fight with the GOP/media.

Edited on Wed Oct-04-06 05:13 PM by Dr Fate
"Disagree" means we both look at the facts and have different opinions, predictions, etc based on those facts.

You have not presented any facts that back up your assertion that Dean or other top Democrats makes these claims about access to Cable TV interview shows.

If you are having trouble finding a link of them talking about this, then that just shows how LITTLE they adress media bias- thus proving my point and taking away your excuse.

The facts are that Kerry, Dean, hillary, Obama, etc are on TV interview shows quite often. The facts are also that no one has yet to point me to a quote of any of them claiming to be denied access to or censored on a TV interview show.

Can you google & then post what you are talking about, for all to see?
