Reid to Bush: Keep Your Eye on the Ball
Reid: Keep Your Eye on the Ball, Mr. President

10/4/2006 2:44:00 PM

To: National Desk

Contact: Jim Manley or Rebecca Kirszner, 202-224-2939, both of the Office of Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid

WASHINGTON, Oct. 4 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid released the following statement on President Bush's comments today on national security:

"Instead of ranting and raving every day on the campaign trail, President Bush should spend more time on the trail of Osama bin Laden. The American people are tired of the President's empty tough talk. They want leaders who are tough and smart. The President and his Republican Congress have no credibility left, and it's time for a new direction."

2. The president's empty tough talk
From Reid's press release to the nation's airwaves, if you please. Every time Chimpy snuffs and snorts about huntin' 'em down or smokin' 'em out, the media collectively swoon, forgetting that every tough pronouncement that's gone before has been nothing more than talk. Bin Laden is still at large, in case our bulldogs of the Fourth Estate hadn't noticed (and they haven't).
