Jesus Camp documentary gives a frightening view across the cultural divide. The scariest movie release of the autumn season is, in fact, a documentary. Jesus Camp takes viewers to the heart of America's culture divide as it profiles three children being groomed to become foot soldiers in "God's army" at a summer camp for charismatic evangelical Christians. Christian conservatives claim new NBC kids' show Veggie Tales got raw deal. When NBC edited religious references from a cartoon series, religious right groups protested, one calling the network "anti-Christian." Click here.

Congress nullifies military chaplain restraints. Just before adjourning on September 30th, Congress abruptly rescinded regulations that encouraged chaplains to pray inclusively, but permitted sectarian prayers at mandatory assemblies. The move came after a House-Senate conference removed language from a defense bill that religious right legislators inserted to promote expression of Christianity in the armed forces. House Republicans pass bill denying fees for church-state cases. Before heading home to campaign, House Republicans pleased their "base" by passing a measure that would deny attorney fees to plaintiffs who successfully sue a government for violations of church-state separation. Passage was presented as striking a blow against a "profiteering" ACLU. Please click here.
