A response to some cons who say teachers have it too easy
I couldn't resist. I posted this here on the Daily Star Comment section.

Harry is this neo-con who always is posting right wing bullshit and calls anybody who isn't to the left of Himmler a commie.

Hey Harry little reality check for ya

My fiance is a teacher and she is a member of NEA (teacher's union)

She does more work in one week than you have or ever will in your entire pampered life.

Teachers get paid absolute crap in this town and they are forced to deal with virtually every bad situation you can think of-kids who don't speak english, parents who speak even less english kids with mental conditions kids with parents who abuse them, parents who show up drunk or stoned and hassle her how it's HER fault that their brats don't learn anything.

It is the screwed up educational system in this country that puts teachers in positions where the only reason they do what they do is because they truly care about our future-those who stay that is.

And it is people like you Harry and the rest of your filthy neo-con ilk who support punks like Tom Horne and the rest of the "teachers are spoiled overpaid" crowd that are to blame for the enabling of such policies that place the blame on underappreciated hardworking Americans who are taking on the burden of trying to help our nation's future grow in a positive direction.

On another note this idea is silly at best. 18 I can understand but at 21 now you're talking students who would be old enough to smuggle alchohol to the minors among other things. If you "adults" in charge think you would have a solution for something like that I'd point out the bang up job you're doing at keeping drug laws enforced especially here in Too-Stoned.

And for all you parents out there get this through your head if you haven't already. EDUCATION STARTS AT HOME IT IS YOUR JOB to ensure that your children retain and study and become successful during their careers at school. It is the teacher's job to properly present the material to your child, yes, but it is YOUR job to ensure that they retain it.

For Ray G

There is no bilingual education-the voters did away with it almost a decade ago. My fiance currently manages a class that is 100% full of students who speak no to little English-and she is not allowed to utter a word of Spanish to them.

Worse she has no help or assistance she is forced to come up with ways to communicate with them using drawings and other visual aids.

Oh and these children are LEGALLY here so kicking them out is not an option.

What's more Tom Horne says that she has it too easy.

If I had my way with her brilliance I would have her join the ranks of all the other upper class businesswomen out there working on profit plans or experimenting with ways to tilt the revenue curve in her company's favor but instead she chooses to serve our community and country but trying to play a role for the benefit of the next generation of Americans.

And you all repay people like her by spitting on them. How proud you must feel.

1. Tell her to watch out. Now that they have destroyed the nurses'
union and made it illegal to unionize, the teachers are next.

2. Ha tell me about it. The little Hitlerites out here already have
for the most part. Arzona is a "right to work" state meaning unions are pretty much only good for helping you hire an attorney if you become injured on the job.

3. excellent post, noahmijo
I've been retired 3 years, taught for over 25 years, a member of NEA and CTA and agree with your post.

What you've posted is actually one of the reasons I retired. I was sick to death of working so hard for 'my kids' and being 'abused' on a daily basis. I have the utmost praise for those still in the teaching profession and planning to enter it. They are true heroes and the defenders of our children.

5. It's really because of this that we plan on moving
I have found myself an excellent job here, (I'm off today as a result I have time to sit here and bs) however even it isn't enough to see spending the rest of my life watching her get treated like shit for the next 25 years to life by the politicians in this jerkwater town that sees education as a liability as opposed to a benefit.

We defintely have our sights set for greener pastures after a few years or so of building experience (we're both currently a year out of a college and just starting the whole career ladder).

I know no matter where you go teachers get bad treatment, however, I do believe that there must be cities that simply treat them like crap as opposed to going out of their way to force them to find better positions in other states as Arizona does.

4. Every time I hear this shit I am reminded of
Columbine and Thurston high here in Oregon. A teacher at Columbine herded kids out of his room and stayed as a target (he was shot and killed) long enough for them to escape. When shots rang out at Thurston, all of the teachers immediately ran TOWARD the sound to help protect the kids. Would Harry do this or would he just be worried about protecting his own ass.
