1. While one wants to agree with Thoreau, remember--

Phelps, killers of abortion docs, Taliban wackos who stone female rape victims, Jesus Camp types, Palestinians rocketing Israel and Israelis who murder innocent Palestinians, are all operating from conscience-driven motives.

There is a lot of thin ice on this pond. Maybe only nonviolent protestors such as Gandhi & King can be relatively sure that they're not committing great crimes in the name of their conscience.

Thoreau was himself a nonviolent resistor and went to jail IIRC for nonpayment of taxes.
