GOP -- The "Dog Ate My Homework" Party

Listening to the Republicans trying to blame everyone -- including their fellow Republicans -- to deflect blame to everyone but themselves proompted a thought.

Maybe instead of an elephant, they ought to adopt as their party symbol the image of a dog chewing away at homework papers to represent their basic approach to "personal responsibility."

They didn't know the air quality was deadly around Ground Zero, despite all the warnings.

They didn't know they were letting Osama get away at Tora Bora, despite all the warnings.

They didn't know Iraq had no WMDs, despite all the warnings.

They didn't know that nation building in Iraq would be a complete disaster, despite all the warnings.

They didn't know the Americans who were dying by the hundreds in New Orleans needed their help, despite all the warnings.

They didn't know that Israel's attacks against Lebanon would backfire, despite all the warnings.

They didn't realize that they were gutting the Bill of Rights and the Constitution, despite all the warnings.

They didn't know Foley was a page chasing pervert, despite all the warnings.
