Dreier backs Foley probe

Glendora Republican David Dreier on Tuesday endorsed a "full investigation" into when and how much his GOP colleagues knew about former Florida Rep. Mark Foley's sexually explicit e-mails to teenage boys.

But Dreier, a top member of the House GOP leadership himself, does not believe House Speaker Dennis Hastert should resign over the handling of the Foley scandal, his spokeswoman, Jo Maney, said.

Despite being chairman of the House Rules Committee and sharing the responsibilities of House Majority Leader, Maney said Dreier was never informed about Foley's e-mails to teenagers until they hit the newspapers last Friday.

"Congressman Dreier supports a full investigation into the matter," Maney said. "He learned about this last week when everyone else did. He is completely outraged."
