"Hughes: Fixing U.S. Image May Take Years"
WASHINGTON (AP) - It may take decades to change anti-American feelings around the world that have been aggravated by war in Iraq, U.S. policy toward Israel and America's "sex and violence" culture, the State Department official in charge of dealing with the U.S. image abroad said Thursday.

"The anti-Americanism, the concern around the world ... this ideological struggle, it's not going to change" quickly, Undersecretary of State Karen Hughes said in an interview with The Associated Press. "It's going to be the work of years and maybe decades."

<snip>

Hughes said the three-year-old Iraq war "is the most recent excuse" for anti-American grievance in the Muslim world.

"Much of the world did not agree with our decision to go into Iraq," just as there is long-standing disagreement with U.S. support for Israel, Hughes said.

11. Not to mention the two current generations of people...
who have had their lives ruined and will no doubt pass their sentiments onto future generations. I'm thinking centuries.

17. Yes and if we don't help restore the power and water to Iraq
we can be guaranteed to be seen as horrible creatures for decades, as diseases set into urban areas. The longer we go on neglecting the federal infrastructures of Iraq and America, the longer by years it will take to 'fix' things and repair the damage we've sown. The response to Katrina still screws with my mind.

IMPEACHMENT, REMOVAL FROM OFFICE and then hand the axis of weasles (Shrub, CrashCart, Rumsfart and Congasleeza) over to the Hague for trial.

16. YEARS!?!?! We're talking GENERATIONS & DECADES!
It will also take that long to pay off the debts Cheney/Bush have incurred to provide bloated, blood-soaked war profits to themselves, their cronies and their corporations. The next two generations of Americans will die having suffered a much lower quality of life - higher taxes, lousier health care, crumbling infrastructure, lower incomes, lesser job opportunities, less affordable higher ed, crappier environment,etc. ALL THANKS TO THE FOOLS WHO VOTED FOR BUSH because "He's the kinda guy I'd like to have a beer with!" As if Bush would ever give them the time of day.

18. The US, in my view, will not survive long enough to revive it's image
I feel that the amount of time it takes to revive America's image for things the federal government has done in previous decades and the current decade will take longer than the amount of time America will remain a superpower.

When that day comes in the following decades, Europe will no longer look to the US for leadership, and China will be the world's superpower.
