Just finished watching V for Vendetta -- ***Spoiler***
Great movie. But at the end, I was screaming, "No, no, not Big Ben." On my two trips to London, Big Ben was my main tourist attraction.

1. Would it have the same impact on you if it had been a tube stop?
Big Ben was chosen for a reason, and you stated it very clearly...emotional impact. What good is a target is everyone will just shrug afterwards?

2. Big Ben is just the bell.
The tower is "Westminster Tower."

This has been a public service announcement from the Anal Retentive Federation.

14. I just bought it on a trip home to US, so I can be reminded of
the fascists in control (in America) and not get homesick to move back!!

Works everytime. 2008 might be a different story. Let's see what happens then. Right now US is a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there....

5. I would have been much more upset...
if they had blown up the Tazo shwarma stand on Queensway. :)

6. Yeah! Or the Magic Wok on Queensway.
That would have been a grevious loss, too.

8. I didn't try that one out...
I love all the cheap (and good) ethnic eating on Queensway.

10. It's a great place for food.
I used to live nearby and spent a lot of time in those restaurants. Apparently the New Fortune Cookie seafood place was Marlon Brando's favorite restaurant in London.

11. Coincidentally, I just finished watching it for the first time about 10
minutes ago - how strange you should mention it! I had a lot of mixed emotions about it - it spoke to my desire for change, but aggravated my lack of desire for destruction. Where is the balance between fighting for what is true, but becoming that which we hate in the process?

16. Also strange:
I am ABOUT to watch the film for the first time! Borrowed from a friend who's NetFlixing it....

After all of the passionate response here on DU, I'm very excited to see for myself.

20. I couldn't agree more...
Not only my favorite, but I think voters ought see this movie prior to the Nov elections. Forget the violence...that makes it a movie...I was paying attention to the politics...that makes it all to real.
