This may be stupid but what will our soldiers use for ammo now since
the munitions blow up in Iraq? Was this a planned attack by the insurgents to disarm our soldiers and attack massively later?

we don't. That was ONE ammo dump.. not the ONLY ammo dump. Every base has one

That said, the troops in that area will be sweating bullets until they get more

11. Yea....I know...just being snarky.....because this administration
is so capable of doing something this ridiculous.......

During WWII they implemented a plan to make manufacturing companies produce materials for war....there is no excuse for having only one munitions company on US soil....it's a matter of security....

wait....since most of our manufacturing as gone out of the US....never mind.....sigh....

4. either it was quite a few lucky mortar rounds OR
it was (self) sabotage. All those munitions should be in earthen bunkers so that explosions in one bunker won't spread and blow up the whole dump.

6. According to Fox, they still have plenty.
The blaze broke out in an ammunition holding area, where material is kept temporarily before distribution to the units at Falcoln, said Lt. Col. Jonathan Withington, a spokesman at the base.

"There is a lot of ammunition there, but it's not a full storage depot," he said. "This does not degrade our operational ability at all." He would not give exact figures on the amount of ammunition or the number of troops at the base, saying only that "more than three battalions" were stationed there at the time of the fire.

"There is an investigation into the cause of the fire," he said.

Of course, we always believe what Fox tells us. :sarcasm:

7. We will find out
sooner or later. It might even be the beginnings of a "Scorched Earth" retreat, although nobody will ever admit that. If we start to re-deploy large numbers of troops or more bases get burned down, that will be a clue. On the other hand, it might be the beginnings of an offensive by the militias or insurgents, or just really pissed off Iraqi's informing us that they would like us to leave the area.

8. munitions
I agree, about the redeployment. It occurred to me that rather then carry all the ammo out, why not just blow it up then get out. One can hope.

10. our troops can stabilize the area long enough
for Halliburton to carry out $100,000.00 worth of ammo for a mere 2 mill I'm sure.

13. Let them shoot opium
I'm sure that little shotgun pellets can be made of opium, and the soldiers will
be really chuffed for the new ammo.
