Richard Pombo----liar! Met with Abramoff about the Marianas!!
Article published Oct 10, 2006
Billing records dispute Pombo claim about Abramoff (4:20 p.m.)

SACRAMENTO – Tracy Rep. Richard Pombo says he never worked with disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff in his 14 years in Congress, but billing records obtained by The Record clearly show at least two interactions between the two in 1996.

Pombo is locked in a tight contest against Pleasanton wind energy consultant Jerry McNerney, and McNerney has made an issue of Pombo’s contacts with Abramoff during the campaign.
Abramoff’s billing records show he and Pombo talking – it is unclear whether the meeting was face-to-face or via phone – on Sept. 10, 1996, and Nov. 21, 1996. The topic was the Marianas Islands, a U.S.-controlled archipelago in the Pacific.

Former Pombo staffer William Dennis Stephens, who worked with Abramoff at the time, had at least 11 other contacts with either Pombo or his staff, the records show.

Two days after the alleged September meeting, Abramoff gave Pombo $500, federal records show. Abramoff ultimately contributed $7,500 to Pombo, money the congressman has since donated to charity.

Pombo spokesman Brian Kennedy noted that Abramoff pleaded guilty earlier this year charges that included padding his billing records. Kennedy says the two entries are fakes.

Pombo himself has consistently said he has never done more than exchange pleasantries with Abramoff – and that was after Pombo became chairman in 2003.

“Richard is clear and vehement and adamant that he hadn’t met Jack Abramoff in 1996,” Kennedy said. “It’s the word of a congressman versus the word of a convicted felon.”

Abramoff’s lawyer, Abbe Lowell, said his client is spending a great deal of time helping federal authorities sift through evidence – including billing records – “as part of his desire to make amends.”

But Lowell said he could neither confirm nor deny the veracity of the Pombo entries.

“We don’t comment on the specifics,” he said.

this time? His record for veracity is not particularly enviable.

8. Did ya hear that Doolittle finally agreed to one debate with Brown?
it's a hand picked crowd and it's only being shown on some tiny cable company in republican heavy placer county. Brown has been running some great ads about Doolittle and Abramoff.

10. Noooo.
I'd kill to see footage of Doolittle's response to Brown's accusation : Doolittle supports Sex Slavery, Forced Abortions, and Sweatshops!!!!

Did you see the exchange between Charlie Brown and Doolittle's surrogate, Doug Ose, on KCRA? Charlie really got to the upper hand while Ose never could gain traction.

that Durston kicks his ass at the polls, they had quite a firey debate the other night and Durston didn't take any shit from Lungren. Christine Craft said she will try and get the tape of the Brown/Doolittle debate and she said she'd play the whole thing. the debate is on Starstream cable, they have a whole vustomer base of 30,000 people which leads me to confirm my own thoughts about Doolittle to quote Keith Olbermann--"Here kitty, kitty"

13. Doug Ose was my congress ass, too, until...
I was Gerrymandered into Tauscher's District. I was a huge Vic Fazio supporter back in his days and was so mad when he retired and the ass Ose was able move in.

I listen to Christine Craft often. Please PM me when she schedules the Doolittle/Brown debate so I can put my ears on.

Durston has made inroads but I haven't heard much about his race against Lungren. Heard any poll numbers? The Doc is truly deserving of the job - I like him.

I'll have to settle for the audio on Christine Craft's radio program tomorrow. I will assume this will be her topic for the entire program. Open up the phones! ;)

Doolittle and Brown to Debate Wednesday Night

Written for the web by Elizabeth Bishop, Senior Internet News Producer

Rep. John Doolittle and Democratic challenger Charlie Brown will face off in their first debate Wednesday night in Rocklin.

The debate will be moderated by local television host Gerry Lyons from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. David Whitney of McClatchy Newspapers, General Manager Deric Rothe of Gold Country Media and Mike Raffety, editor of the Mountain Democrat will also act as panelists.

In addition to taking questions from the panelists, Doolittle and Brown will also take part in a moderated discussion and answer questions called in from viewers. A number for that will be provided during the debate.

Doolittle and Brown are campaigning to represent the 4th Congressional District which stretches from the eastern parts of the Sacramento area to Lake Tahoe and north to Modoc County. The debate will be streamed live on News10.net starting at 7:30 p.m. It can also be viewed by Starstream Cable customers.

19. So THAT's where Christine Craft went! She used to be in Kansas City.
We knew her here as a tv news anchor. She was great in that occupation.

20. Where she was fired for being ''too old and unattractive"....
to be a journalist? After the trials, she became inspired and went to law school at McGeorge in Sacramento to became an attorney. She has a small legal practice specializing in animal rights issues and does a wonderful afternoon talk show at a progressive radio station, 'Talk City' 1240. She is plugged into the California politics, all that happens in Sacramento, and is Arnie's worst nightmare - YOU CAN'T HAVE HER BACK!!! ;)

such a hateful man. he and Abu Gonzales both are almost cartoonishly wicked, except that the effects of their actions hurt so many people (and other living beings).

12. Abramoff was up Pombo's tail like he was a Congressional page.
A criminal relationship wouldn't have lasted long, because Pombo became Chairman of the House Resources Committee only a year or so before Jack got busted. Previously, Abramoff had lured the Resources Committee general counsel over to his firm, so it's established that Jack was targeting Resources from early on.

Once Pombo was in, Abramoff had two huge reasons to cozy up to him. House Resources has jurisdiction over the Marianas, but it also has primary jurisdiction over the United States' relationship with American Indian tribes. When you're ripping off Indians, it's a good idea to have the House Resources Committee on your side. In Abramoff's case, Resources--and Pombo--was on his side.

Pombo's response to the Abramoff scandal--the most notorious scandal to hit Indian Country, ever--was to do nothing. No hearings were held on the subject in 2004, though Pombo repeatedly promised he would hold hearings. If that tactic sounds familiar, recall Bob Ney's promise to hold hearings on the 2004 election theft in Ohio. Now is the bell ringing?

I think Pombo's dereliction of his duty as Chairman on the Indian side of the Abramoff scandals is prima facie evidence of cover-up and likely criminal activity.
