VIDEO/TRANSCRIPT-OLBERMAN: “Why does habeas corpus hate America”
Olbermann: “Why does habeas corpus hate America”
By: Jamie Holly on Tuesday, October 10th, 2006 at 6:04 PM - PDT

Keith did a great report tonight on what the recently passed Military Commissions Act of 2006 means to America and our Constitution.

This story has been buried by Foleygate, which is a crime in itself. I had the honor of hearing Daniel Ellsberg and John Siegenthaler Sr. speak last night and the key subject was journalism in today's political environment. We are one of the only countries in the world without an official secrets act, due in a large part to the uniqueness of our first amendment. Sadly this very bill puts us even closer to enacting such legislation and putting a muzzle on the media that would have prevented the extraordinary act of patriotism that Ellsberg exhibited, as well as those that followed in the entire Watergate scandal.

1. Watched it--He was brilliant!
Te big red "X"s on The Bill of Rights, and changing it to The Bill of Right, since only the third amendment is not affected by ending/suspending habeus corpus, was a very clear visual.

22. I think I would disagree with that one too
If you are arrested and detained indefinately the odds are you won't have a house. It would get forclosed upon and sold fairly quickly so housing soldiers would not be any concern..

31. Doesn't the Patriot act say that the government can seize your home for
National security without any due process??

Everyone should see this, it's scary to even think that now we could be rounded up and thrown in prison for the rest of our lives.

7. Another great one by Olbermann, held up the bill of rights and
crossed off the ones no longer applicable.... leaving just the 3rd amendment.

11. So sad, the lonely Bill of Right
Gov't authorities can listen to my phone calls, read my emails, perform search and seizure with or without my knowledge, drag me away in the middle of the night never to be heard from again...but I feel safe knowing soldiers still can't camp in our homes.

KO rocks as usual.

32. Matthew 16:28
Matthew 16:28: Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.

Time for Thomas to conclude his wandering.
The son of Joseph from fair Ephraim has come,
grappling mightily with powerful Armilus
while Moshiach awaits the return of his people.

The land is restored,
yet the Temple is no more.
The recalcitrants’ must
tarry no more.

Methough mine was the way of Peace,
yet fair Yeshua of Nazareth
and the Ishmaelite son, the praised one,
misguided The Way.

The fruitful bough of Joseph
with the evil one must contend.
Yet David’s posterity shall
resurrect this One.

The kingdom restored!
The kingdom restored!
Let us wander about with
earthly riches no more.

The world knows God
and the world waits,
The Torah is in the heart,
me too a Nazirite acclaims.

With lashings and a
ram, ewe, and lamb,
repentance is heartfelt
from this drunken Jew.

Thomas called me
Ashwatthama the Aryan
murderer of Draupadi’s sons
and cattle stealer deluxe
(yet was not even cruel Ashoka
‘the beloved of the gods’ . . .).

But I am pleased to meet you,
as Agni has many names.
Mine was thought Savior,
but my name means flames.

Aye, as I light the sword of He who follows! Empyrius!

Who better to contend with the greatest son of Hell?
Than One who knows that leaves
that fall from a tree
reenter life’s cycle.

O frail ben adam
who withers and dies,
let us not forget
where eternal salvation lies.

To Jerusalem we must go!
To Jerusalem we must go!

20. Too DAMN few, unfortunately.
Every person who has the intestinal fortitude to call themselves a journalist should be screaming from the rooftops. We're circling the bowl while the media pisses and shits missing white girls and celebrity dirt.

Terrific, Keith makes it absolutely clear and does it with savage wit. If it wasn't for the humor I'd be running down the steet in terror.

18. If anyone is not scared yet they are either brainwashed by the media
or legally incompetent, or both.
No one should let anyone they know serve to defend this administration who is undermining our basic freedoms - the Constitution itself!.

30. I flew home last weekend
after a business trip. I am not of middle-Eastern heritage, nor young, nor male. My luggage had been checked. I had one very small tote with books that easily fit into the the plastic security bin along with my purse, shoes, and cell phone and was wearing nothing heavier than a small denim jacket. Having been pulled out of the long security line and directed to a security booth with no line, I passed through the machine the first time with no buzzer going off. And yet - I was directed to stand to the side for a "pat down" search.

The security personnel could not have been nicer, and I was of course fully cooperative, but a certain wave of fear passed through me: Could something have been planted on my person in line? What did I do to trigger this "special" treatment? If I could be singled out for this treatment when I had done nothing, was guilty of nothing, had no prior arrest record, no association with any controversial organization, no religious ties to Islam, was not even carrying a tube of lip balm, and had made no inappropriate comments, what more could be done to me? If I could be arrested without cause and jailed without cause and have no access to family or legal assistance - what would happen to me? More important, what would happen to my family and everything that I have?

If Americans allow a fear of terrorist attacks to strip them of their constitutional rights, then they are truly ignorant.

When they finally realize what it is to be without freedom or protection of law, then they will truly understand fear.
