http://news.monstersandcritics.com/asiapacific/article_1210204.php/Philippines_prepared_for_possible_evacuation_in_South_KoreaManila - The Philippines has prepared for possible evacuation of some 50,000 Filipino workers from South Korea in case the crisis triggered by North Korea's nuclear test worsens, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo said Wednesday.
Arroyo assured Filipinos working mostly in factories in South Korea and their families that the government already has contingency plans in place.
'Learning from the lessons of the recent past, the government has made preparations for every contingency that will require taking our nationals out of harm's way,' she said in a statement, two days after North Korea conducted its first nuclear test.
'It may be still premature to put evacuation plans in motion as far as Korea is concerned, but we have instructed the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Labour and Employment to be ready and prepared at all times,' she added.
