A blaze that destroyed an ammunition dump at a US military base in Baghdad was caused by a mortar attack, a US spokesman has said. aqi officials said that shells "cooking off" in the fire had crashed down in five districts in the south of the city.

The munitions store in Forward Operating Base Falcon was still burning Wednesday, more than 13 hours after the strike set off a blaze that lit up the night sky and spread panic in the Iraqi capital.
State television showed live pictures of the blazing inferno and ordnance exploding skywards.

US Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Withington: "It was a mortar round. An ammunition holding area caught on fire... in our operating base in the Rasheed area of the city." e said the ammunition store contained tank and artillery rounds as well as small arms ammunition.

Rare success

While there were no reports of US casualties, the explosions marked a rare success for mortar teams working for militia and insurgent groups, which rarely cause much damage to well-protected US facilities.Military and civilian personnel were evacuated from Forward Operating Base Falcon without injury.

8. It's been on MSNBC
I've seen quick clips of it several times. Although this blonde twit they've got on today is getting on my last nerve. It's almost as if whenever these heartland ladies start coming out of their stupors and gaining some facts, it's time to recyle in another emptyheaded dimwit.

10. Sad isn't it? We were hit with mortar shells by insurgents and it is
ignored. Never mind that they are now aiming at our war supplies.

13. I've always wondered
Why isn't the supply line under constant attack? It would seem to be an awfully weak link to me, if whoever is running the show over there ever gets their shit together we're in big trouble.
