Breaking: MSNBC reports small plane has crashed in NYC's Upper East Side.
Edited on Wed Oct-11-06 02:28 PM by originalpckelly
4 apartments on fire in one building. Seeing pictures on MSNBC now, quite large amount of smoke.

Address:
524 E. 72 ST.

Here it is in google maps:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=524+E+72nd+St,+New+York,+NY+10021&ie=UTF8&z=17&ll=40.766508,-73.953281&spn=0.005225,0.013561&t=k&om=1

If you are watching the MSNBC feed you will see a pyramid like building, you can see it in front of the building on fire.

UPDATE: Eyewitness accounts report it was not a helicopter, but a small fixed wing aircraft.

UPDATE 2: Reporters indicate it was most likely NOT terrorism related.

I know that area pretty well. Had a friend who lived at 72nd & York.

Confirmed it's a helicopter. Explosion inside the building.

26. That's What I Wondered Too
The percentage of copter crashes per thousand hours is WAY higher than for other small aircraft. The pilots must be pretty darned good.
