How many Republicans do you know voting for Democrats this year?
Whenever I get a little nervous about the upcoming elections, I just think about how politics have changed in my own household in the last two years. I wasn't old enough to vote in 2004, but my brother is the head of the Rutgers College Republican Party, my father is a socially liberal Republican and my mother is not very involved in politics, but voted Republican. So in 2004 out of a four person household, 3 voted Republican and 0 voted Democratic. This year my mother is dissillusioned and isn't voting, my father has turned against the GOP because of insane campaigns like Terri Schiavo and the blocking of stem cell research and is voting for the Democrats to balance out the government this year, and I'm old enough to vote for the Democratic Party.

So our household went from 3-0 for the Republicans in 2004 to 2-1 for the Democrats this year.

Any stories of political transformation you have?

4. Funny thing about secret ballots
There are secret.

One of the many reasons why exit polling is worthless nowadays.

Three people go vote, all say they voted a certain way do to peer pressure, nobody knows for sure how they really voted.

7. None
and I would not believe those who say otherwise - once they get in the booth, fear, smear and nascent or otherwise bigotry will be hard to fight.

8. My brother and his wife are registered R, but criticize Bush** all the
time. They can't stand Santorum, and said they would vote for Casey but I'm sure they will vote for Swann for Governor because they blame Rendell for the stupid legislator pay raise in PA. They are also big Steeler fans so I would not be surprised if they voted for "number 88". Grrrr.

10. No changes to report, here.
My right wing Repub sister in Houston probably won't bother to vote, but then, I doubt that she voted last election either. My Dem friends and family members are fired up this year and probably will vote. Good post. Thanks!

11. I have a good one
I am in a new job, and everyone there is a Repugnant. So, anyway, I was walking by my boss who was having a conversation with two of my co-workers and overheard him say that this would be the first time he will be voting a straight democratic ticket.

They are unaware of my political leanings in the office, so it was not for my benefit.

12. Talked to a lady at the pool the other day who's fed up w/the religious
overtones. She doesn't think that politics and religion whould be mixed. She also thinks that the Repubs have really screwed up. She said she voted for Bush the last time around.

My neighbor's husband voted for Bush the first time but voted Kerry the second time and will be voting Dem this election.

He now cannot STAND Bush - thinks he's totally stupid.

13. Many Alaska Republicans have said they are voting
for Democrat Diane Benson, according to her campaign. We're ALL just sick and tired of Don Young.
