Message to Republican Rep. Christopher Shays
Edited on Thu Oct-12-06 09:50 AM by AndyA
http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/10/11/shays.kennedy.ap/index.html

HARTFORD, Connecticut (AP) -- Republican Rep. Christopher Shays defended the House speaker's handling of a congressional page scandal, saying no one died like during the 1969 Chappaquiddick incident involving Democratic Sen. Ted Kennedy.

"I know the speaker didn't go over a bridge and leave a young person in the water, and then have a press conference the next day," the embattled Connecticut congressman told The Hartford Courant in remarks published Wednesday.

"Dennis Hastert didn't kill anybody," he added.

Shays' comments recalled the Chappaquiddick incident, when Kennedy's car ran off a Massachusetts bridge, killing his passenger, Mary Jo Kopechne. Kennedy did not immediately report the tragedy, and he later pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident.

That happened almost 40 years ago. It was investigated and dealt with back then. How far back do you want to go to try to dig up dirt on a Democrat?

In the meantime, on the Republican side of the fence, we've had the Nixon Watergate scandal. No deaths, but a major political event in this country.

Then we had the Reagan era Iran Contra affair. Now that was a dirty, nasty thing, wasn't it?

Next we have September 11, 2001, a day every American will never forget. A glaring reminder that the Republican Administration and Republican-controlled Congress didn't do anything about the multitude of warnings they received from reputable sources prior to the event. They didn't protect us. They didn't warn us. They did nothing. The result: over 3,000 innocent people DEAD.

So far, the Republicans are WAY AHEAD of the Democrats when it comes to people dying without cause.

And let's consider the Iraq war. Estimates now say over 655,000 Iraqis have died since the start of the war. Over twice as many as Saddam supposedly killed during his reign. And why did they die? To protect America? Hmmm...there were no WMDs, Saddam was not a threat, he did not harbor or abet the 9/11 terrorists. So why is it the Republicans have invaded a sovereign nation again?

The totals so far are:

Democrats 1
Republicans 658,000+

You do the math, Rep. Shays. The Republicans, including YOU, have a lot more blood of dead people on your hands than the Democrats do. You might think about that the next time you start pointing fingers at someone else.

Americans are on to you, your party, and your party's Gestapo tactics. Your days are numbered. America is FED UP with the lies, abuse, and murders of the GOP.

1. Every time one of these losers steps up to a microphone and
spews bullshit like this, someone should punch them in the mouth.

Hard.

Maybe if they valued their teeth, they would think before they obfuscate.

6. You know, Iam not a violent person, but I was thinking the same thing.
Kennedy should punch him a good one right in the mouth.

11. No, maybe the Kopechne family should
since they've forgiven Ted ...

Of course, if they won't let that one go, remind Shays that Laura Welch killed her ex, stone cold sober and on a clear night in Texas ...

15. I'm not a violent person either. Unfortunately, we are running out
of options. They control the media, the elections, the legal system. We are coming to a hard patch where we will have to decide to either stand up and punch them in the mouth or lie down and take it.

2. I think there were a few Democrats that voted for that damn war
I don't like adds like this or articles or whatever the hell it is. While I despise what the Republicans have done they have not done it all by themselves..

4. It's important to remember that the vote for the war was based on
information provided by The Bush Administration.

The Dems were lied to. They made the best choice they possibly could at that point in time, based on what the Republicans in charge gave them.

We now know that most of that data was inaccurate, deliberately falsified, and heavily edited to make the point for war. In hindsight, I'll bet a lot of Dems would not have voted the way they did had they known everything.

7. Rants from either side get tiresome.
I first visited this site expecting some substance in arguments, but almost every thread I read consists of tirades about the mean old repukes. On one hand, you spout platitudes about peace and love, but then follow up with such threads as how much you hate Republicans and would like to run over them with snow tires. I would rather read about new ideas that Democrats have. If you want to attract people who are tired of Republicans, then you have to offer a good alternative. Right now I wouldn't give you two cents for either party.

14. Speaking of ideas ... please explain your president's idea of
"Iraqis standing up" so that our guys can leave? Last I heard, it is (in Bush's estimation) well into a second President's term (after Bush leaves office, if he does - "That's for future Presidents to decide ..." - from the "Decider") before we would even consider being out of there ...

Every time he's asked about when we will leave, he says we can't leave until the job is done ... but then, he won't say what it will take to "get the job done" because "that would aid the terrorists" and that "they'd wait until we leave and take over" - right after they "follow us" wherever we go ...

:wtf:

16. My mistake
I thought when I came here I would get Democrat ideas, not have to defend Republican ones, or their lack of ideas as the case may be. If you can recommend another site where I can find some new, workable ideas rather than constant criticism of the opposing party, I would be happy to go there and stop irritating all of you.

conservative is all about avoiding change ...

Try looking at Dem candidates' web sites ... or go home to freeptopia ...

21. Try FR
Over there I've seen some amazing new ideas on how to defend pedophiles. These ideas merely show the bankruptcy and hypocrisy of those who are defending Hastert and company.

Over there I have seen people claiming to be christians defending the genocide taking place in Iraq as a result of an illegal war based on lies.

Over there I have seen people defending this corrupt, immoral, criminal regime. I think you should give them a great new idea - tell them to change the name from FR to MR as in Moral Relativism. Another new idea would be to follow the basic rules of argument. Logic would be a good place to start.

By the way would you send them a donation since it's almost two weeks and JR has only managed to solicit 31% of the projected contributions. See yah!

17. So what are the republicans doing to protect kids?
They seem more concerned about the reputation of their party and the upcoming election than the damage being done to children. Is this okay with you? Which is more important? The party or the kids being threatened?

Point is: Clean up your own house first, Sir, before you head over here telling us what is wrong with ours.

sheesh!! damned arrogant republicans.

20. I'm sorry you were offended
When I talked about sites that constantly criticize the opposing party, I was including Republican websites. I am not a Republican; I am an independent. I just realized that there is no place for independent thinkers to go for new ideas. Unless you rubberstamp everything that Democrats or Republicans do (depending upon what website you're on)you get branded as a member of the opposing party. I enjoy debate. I think it's good to question and think of new things, and I can do so with other people who disagree with me without name-calling and animosity. Obviously, I'm in the wrong place and won't bother to post anymore. I apologize to all.

12. This is exactly what I was talking about in an earlier post.
Do you really want to go there? Laura Bush is not a politician. Ted Kennedy is. She was 17. Ted was 37 and had been heavily drinking. I don't think he's suffered too much. He's still rich and has been serving in the Senate for 44 years. That having been said, let's leave the past in the past and look to the future.

13. sorry common cents
but this kind of thing cannot go unanswered - even if we have to sling mud back - for WAY too long the GOP has pursued this line of attack while the dems have sat back and allowed it. It sucks but if we don't fight fire with fire then WE are the only ones getting burned - and I for one am sick of taking their bullshit without fighting back.

18. I agree. To remain silent is to condone what the GOP is saying.
This is bullshit, and it needs to be smacked down.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

I would expect the repugnants to know that better than anyone, but in their world of foggy hypocrisy, I guess they don't think it applies to them.

Kennedy needs to smack the ever lovin' shit out of Shays. He has no room to talk with the bloody hands his party currently has. And it's fresh blood, American and Iraqi.

Shame, shame, shame for even considering giving them a pass on this!

why tar a different person with the Chappaquiddick brush? Was she in the car?

It's the sort of ridiculous generalization that you Greedy Old Perverts like to use against random Dems becasue you are intellectually and spiritually bankrupt. Why should I care that you find no "new ideas" here? I don't think you would recognize a new idea if it folded your panties for you.

tell her to get her ass off of the campaign trail. Did you want open ideas for the past six years while your president was busy carting off anyone at campaign stops who disagreed with his lies.
