Missouri Senate Race: McCaskill (D) 51% v. Talent (R) 42%
SurveyUSA Poll: Democrat McCaskill Pulls Ahead of Talent

October 12, 2006

U.S. Senate Seat May 'Flip'

In an election for United States Senator from Missouri today, 10/12/06, Democratic challenger Claire McCaskill leads Republican incumbent Jim Talent 51% to 42%, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for KSDK-TV St. Louis and KCTV-TV Kansas City. Since an identical SurveyUSA poll 4 weeks ago, on 9/14/06, McCaskill has gained 3 points and Talent has lost 5 points. McCaskill's advantage has grown from 1 point to 9 points.

The election is in 26 days, on 11/7/06. Most of the movement in the race comes from Independent voters, who supported Talent by 12 points in September but now support McCaskill by 13 points, a 25-point swing. 91% of Democrats vote Democrat. 87% of Republicans vote Republican.

2. I'd wait
for another poll than confirms this result. Most of the polling shows a 3 point race.

8. I donated to McCaskill because I think this is a possible pick-up --
I am happy to see that she is making progress in whatever form.

And we need all the early "voting" (donations!) we can get...

:hi:

that its a good opportunity. I just don't know that we are ahead by 9 points right now. That's all.

12. I think this new lead is entirely due to the $10 I gave to her :-)

3. i saw their debate last night and i was surprised at how congenial

10. Perhaps the Talent campaign should have put more billboards in MO
...and left them out of KS.

There is a "Vote for Talent" billboard off I-35 in Kansas! Maybe if they had actually placed it in Missouri, it would've had better results.

11. WOW
This is the first poll out of MO that I can recall that shows either candidate with a lead that's out of the MOE. It has been pretty discouraging seeing the lead flip back and forth between the two, but entirely within the MOE. This is great news, especially if it's all movement within independents.

17. .
Yeah, almost too good to believe after previous polls showed them tied or with small leads for Talent.
We need every state that is currently a toss-up.
