Please Help: Which Good Iraq/Political Books am I Missing?
Edited on Sat Oct-14-06 08:48 PM by Mike03
I'm going to have to be offline for awhile but before I do I want to order as many great political books as possible on the topics of Iraq and this hideous administration. These are the books I have read so far:

State of Denial - Woodward
Hubris - Isikoff and Corn
Fiasco - Ricks
One Percent Doctrine - Suskind
Conservatives without Conscience - John Dean
America at the Crossroads - Francis Fukuyama
Blood Money - Christian Miller
American Theocracy - Kevin Phillips
State of War by James Risen

Please recommend! What am I missing? I'd really appreciate some input.

Thank you in advance.

Peter Galbraith's "End of Iraq" which I have only skimmed so far.

2. Greatest Story Ever Sold
Frank Rich...a great writer weaves together the politics and culture for the best big picture take on what happened from Iraq to Katrina...with an indispensible timeline to reinforce it all. If this is the one book they're reading 100 years from now, we can all die happy knowing that they got the truth of what we all lived through.

11. Amazing book
It was so good it actually made me totally despondent. I own a couple of copies.

Good recommendation, though, just forgot to mention it myself. thanks.

I wish he would consider running for office.

12. "Editorial Period Expired"
Edited on Sat Oct-14-06 09:25 PM by Mike03
Forgot to include Seymour Hersh's book "Chain of Command" and, like, books by Al Franken. Those books are very heartwarming, but I am looking for the most detailed, up-to-date books available.

13. Against All Enemies by Richard A. Clarke
ISBN 0-7432-6024-4

Clarke worked for four presidents and was in the White House before the second tower was hit and
was at the heart of what happened there for the following weeks.

This is the story, from his perspective, of how al Qaeda developed and attacked the US on 9/11.
It is the story of 4 presidents:

Ronald Reagan, who did not retaliate for the murder of 278 Marines in Beirut and who violated his own terrorism policy by trading arms for hostages in the Iran-Contra scandal.

George H.W. Bush, WHO DID NOT RETALIATE FOR THE LIBYAN MURDER OF 259 passengers on Pan Am 103, who did not have an official counterterrorism policy, and who left Saddam Hussein in place, requiring the US to leave a large military presence in Saudi Arabia;

Bill Clinton, who identified terrorism as the major post Cold War threat and acted to improve our counterterrorism capabilities; who (little known to the public) quelled anti-american terrorism by Iraq and Iran and defeated an al Qaeda attempt to dominate Bosnia; but who, weakened by continued political attack, could not get the CIA, the Pentagon, and FBI to act sufficiently to deal with the threat;

George W. Bush, who failed to act prior to September ll on the threat from al Qaeda despite repeated warnings and then harvested a political windfall for taking obvious yet insufficient steps after the attacks; and who launched an unnecessary and costly war in Iraq that strengthened the fundamentalist, radical Islamic terrorist movement worldwide.
