Here's an article from the most recent Alabama Democrat (our Democrat news source in AL) that may reveal not only if you're being snooped on but also who might be snooping.

Experiment to see if your mail is being tapped by the gov't
Richard M. Smith of ComputerBytesMan has come up with a "quick and easy method to see if one's email messages are being read by someone else."

1. Set up a Hotmail account.

2. Set up a second email account with a non-U.S. provider. (eg. Rediffmail.com)

3. Send messages between the two accounts which might be interesting to the NSA.

4. In each message, include a unique URL to a Web server that you have access to its server logs. This URL should only be known by you and not linked to from any other Web page. The text of the message should encourage an NSA monitor to visit the URL.

5. If the server log file ever shows this URL being accessed, then you know that you are being snooped on. The IP address of the access can also provide clues about who is doing the snooping.

The trick is to make the link enticing enough for someone or something to want to click on it. As part of a large-scale research project, I would suggest sending out a few hundred thousand messages using various tricks to find one that might work.

As Dave Farber notes: "It is not a good idea to try this if you hope to ever again fly on an American airline without first being strip-searched by the TSA monkeys."

The use of links to watch the watchers (by itself) may be useful for finding out if your mail is already being watched.

That assumes that they actually follow the link instead of either ignoring it, or accessing the data on the website by some other means.

you are already being monitered anyway, but the trick is to get the agent/person that is doing the monitoring to try to spy on you even more. That is what gets registered.

Okay, now, you guys heard Buns of Fire... It's safe for people who believe in God and the WHOLE Constitution, including the Second Amendment, to post at DU. AND your message doesn't have to be more radical or "interesting" than your common email content because if you are already interesting to the snooping cia types, they will chomp on the bait.
In fact, wouldn't it be smart to avoid drawing undue attention to yourself, above and beyond normal content?
This is a great project, and I just thought of another one. If your not a terrorist, and the cia is still snooping for political reasons, why not tie up as much of their time as it takes for them to finnally go to their superiors with the news of just how stupid the surveilance is.
I did that with a cop sitting in wait on our 25mph street, for a "speeder" or "runnig stops" at the stop sign, and with my comments, he never showed up again to bust neighbors who are running stop signs at all ahead slow instead of stopping dead.

Ask any heard on the prarie... there's safety in numbers and the predator gets tired when there's so many to chase. I want to clearly state, at this time, however, that the time and money I want to tie up isn't at the federal cop level. I want to see the Republicons (and that's no spelling error folks) tie up their time and money chasing the old tail!

I'm one of the owners of an anti-Bush t-shirt site, and last year we caught the Dept. of Homeland Security looking at our merchandise. I don't fly, but if I did I bet they'd be searching me extra carefully at the airport!
