Still Kickin' and getting better.
I got my right kidney out on Friday because of a huge mass that is almost definitely cancer. We haven't gotten the path report back yet, but things looked good in surgery. It hasn't spread that we know of, praise be, and I'm finally feeling better. I'm walking around, will probably get a shower later, and hope to get home tomorrow. The epidural's out, the pain meds seem to work well enough, and I'm champing at the bit to get out of here and home.

Thought I'd post an update. Oh, and my nurse's aid had all three nephews in Iraq at one point and is mad as heck about it. They're home safe now, but she feels it's all gone on more than long enough.

7. Wow.
Even with a kidney out, it sounds like you are still spittin' fire and pissin' gasolene. Good on you.

You'll be back in steel cage matches in no time. ;-)

8. You can't keep a DU addict down, I guess
Prepare to realize just how sick you are when you get home and accept any help that's offered. It's always a bit of a surprise how much worse you can feel at home than you did when you wanted to get out of the hospital.

I know after my surgery I couldn't manage to get upstairs to the bedroom and lived on the couch for the first 3 days, and that was only an appedectomy.

I'm glad everything came out all right (ouch) and that you're well on the road to recovery.

10. Thanks so much for the update. Know, along with thousands of DUers,
have thought about you many times over the last few days. Good to know that you are doing so well.

Take it easy for the first few days home, let your family pamper you and get your strength back. Your country and DU needs you at full fighting mode.

14. I'm planning on the couch for the first week.
The stairs were hard after the appendectomy last spring, so I'm assuming they'll pretty much be impossible for at least a week or so this time around.

I'm even getting a new chair out of this, considering we don't have one I can sit in all day (with walking breaks). That should help, too.

18. I'm home!!!
I'm feeling so much better with no IV and all that crap--I am home and knitting!!!

Keep us all in the loop on your surgery. Surgery sucks. I'm sure it'll go really well, though. If mine, with all it's possible problems, can go so well, surely you'll go through yours with flying colors and amazing healing. I'll add you to my prayer list, if you don't mind.
