Snow: Bush isn't making more campaign visits, because it's too expensive

<snip>

And Snow told Ann Compton one of the reasons the president isn't making more campaign visits for Republicans is because it's just too expensive for local congressman to bring Bush to town (they cover his expenses and use hard money to do it). You've got to wonder if that's the only reason they're not jumping at the chance to be seen with this "commanding figure on the political scene."

well, let's ask Rep. Howard Coble what he thinks...

Bush's stop in NC doesn't include visits to districts in play

<snip>

From there, it was on to the Victory Junction Gang Camp in Randleman, run by NASCAR's Petty family, in the safe Republican territory represented by Rep. Howard Coble.

"I'm not uncomfortable having him here," Coble told the News-Record of Greensboro this week. "I don't know that it helps. But it doesn't hurt and it might help. There are a lot of his supporters who are simply not happy with Iraq. I'm not happy about it. But that doesn't mean I dislike my president."

When dubya came here, we were told that taxpayers fund his campaign travel. Now this says the candidates fund it?
