Lieberman did say it...not expecting an attack from Republican side...
in the debate. I heard he said it, but just found it at FDL.

This is so amazing he would say that. He actually did NOT expect to be attacked by the Republican side in the debate. A deal or something, Joe?

http://www.firedoglake.com/2006/10/18/why-you-smiling-joe/

"As Colin McEnroe says, during Monday's debate Lieberman betrayed his feelings of entitlement to anything he wants from the GOP:

Lieberman unintentionally disclosed another thing he believes: that the fix is in and that he doesn't have to worry about Republican opposition. He actually said it! He said he wasn't expecting an attack from the Republican side! Remember, he got a phone call from Karl Rove right after the primary. From that day until this, his campaign has been oozing Republican gravy. He gets their money, and he gets their tactical support. The only thing they have not been able to do for Joe Lieberman is find the "off" switch on Alan Schlesinger.

And what Chris Shays is saying about Joe is very surprising...

Chris Shays has lost his mind, that's a given. First he launched a bizarre attack on Ted Kennedy before going on to liken the torture at Abu Ghraib to a weekend at Plato's Retreat, and now as a Republican congressman up for re-election in the state of Connecticut he says that Lieberman is a "national treasure" and that Joe's victory is more important than his own.

And another statement by the blogger, about how Joe is manipulating the Democratic leadership.

All I can say is that I believe with some confidence that Lieberman will keep running his mouth and talking trash about Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and other Democratic leaders he seems to have absolutely no fear of facing again in Washington DC. And that they, as they have done before, will accept this bitchslapping from No Show Joe with a smile, clinging to the hope that he will caucus with the Dems if he wins in November.

1. Joe has been a Repuke for years. At least THIS time, the Repukes...
spent their OWN money to pay for his campaign.

7. Shays is a huge disappointment. He was one of the opposition I
sometimes respected eventhough I disagreed with him.

8. He's going to caucus with repukes after the Democrats vote for him.
Who wants to bet me? We MUST win enough Senate seats so we don't have to depend on Joe's "loyalty" or lack thereof.:(

9. What Shays says, I don't find all that surprising:
Chris Shays has lost his mind, that's a given. First he launched a bizarre attack on Ted Kennedy before going on to liken the torture at Abu Ghraib to a weekend at Plato's Retreat, and now as a Republican congressman up for re-election in the state of Connecticut he says that Lieberman is a "national treasure" and that Joe's victory is more important than his own.

The first couple things, the Chappaquiddick (ho hum--damn, why not dredge up some Andrew Jackson era dirt if you feel like being irrelevant?) and saying Abu Ghraib was all about da sex (My, Mr. Shays, who knew? Torture, murder? Who do *you* want to be today?) Those things are just cluelessness. But the Lieberman quote--has content. Joe Lieberman is a wedge all on his lonesome--a wedge into the Democratic Party. He was Gore's running mate--now he doesn't have a clear place in our party--and I say fine. He decided; he picked his side. But some (people who favor the war) might see it being a schism with Democrats--did Lieberman move on, or did we?

What he's saying is, if Lieberman wins, it somehow should set the tone for the direction of our party. Why we should let someone who is not a member of it set the tone, I don't know. To me, supporting the war, Bush, "staying the course", "pre-emptive war", failing diplomacy, a reactive policy in NK as opposed to talks, a policy that will enmire us in daily, avoidable violence...is unthinkable. There should be no wedge. But in Shays' world, Lieberman is right--the majority of us Dems--are wrong. I know where he's coming from. He's wrong of course, but I see what he's saying.

11. From today's debate...a funny one from Lamont and the GOP guy..
whose name I will not attempt to spell....I found this at Kos.

From today's debate, which weirdly won't be televised until tomorrow:

Schlesinger turned to the senator: "If you had someone doing a job for 18 years, and after 18 years, their record was one of complete failure, what would you do? What do you think should happen with that person?"

He turned to Lamont to make his point: "Ned, you're a businessman: what would you say about someone like that?"

"I'd say, "It's time to go, Joe!" said Lamont.

14. Headless chickens.
They are so desperate they are saying anything they think will stick, no matter how foolish they look.
Desperation as we've not seen for many election cycles. Enjoy the show!

18. Think For A Minute, What If Gore Had Selected Edwards As His VP...
...instead of Lieberman. The vetting process had Edwards in the final cut, and supposedly he was very impressive. Those around Gore looked at the demographics and polling numbers and thought Lieberman would bring in the "swing voters" more than Edwards.

I think Lieberman was a drag on the ticket. Gave Cheney a 'pass' in their debate. And now I wonder what their relationship was at the time of that debate, and if he did not sell out not only Gore and Democrats, but the rest of the country as well.

At least in Edwards, he would have helped electrify the Democratic base, and would have gone nose to nose with Cheney.

I bet Gore has wished a thousand times he had not chosen Lieberman ....

19. Kerry was on the short list, too
That would have been an amazing ticket--think of all the good those two could have done in the WH, especially if 9/11 had occurred. (But I'm not saying it would have, necessarily!)
