What did YOU do for National Character Counts Week?
Did you make any personal ethical or moral adjustments? Did you buy a tree? Put up lights?

National Character Counts Week ran October 15 through October 21 and was intended, according to *, to "renew our commitment to instilling values in our young people and to encouraging all Americans to remember the importance of good character."

"As individuals, we all have an obligation to help our children become responsible citizens and realize their full potential," reads the * proclamation. "By demonstrating values such as integrity, courage, honesty, and patriotism, all Americans can help our children develop strength and character."

2. Didn't kill or torture anyone. Didn't steal anything either. Directed
my sexual urges to one woman born within a few years of my birth.

It was easy enough to do, but then, I am not a Republican...

6. I wrote the first song to commemorate the occasion
National Character Counts Week???
(apologies to Tom Lehrer.
The words might fit the tune of "National Brotherhood Week." Or not...)

Oh, the GOP hate the Democrats
Think they're better than the left
It is an old established rule
They learned it back in business school

But during National Character Counts Week
National Character Counts Week
Ken Lay and Mother Theresa
Are dancing cheek to cheek
Gee but it's fun to criticize
Immoral people you despise
Especially when you always do what's right

Oh, the poor folks have no character
And the rich folks have too much
All of my folks look down on your folks
Your morals are a joke

But during National Character Counts Week
National Character Counts Week
Red states can chastise blue states
because it's very chic
Step up and shake the hand
Of someone you can't stand
Because you know he's not as good as you

Rightwingers hold your heads up high
You'll only kill the ones who die
The right-to-life for those who think like you
And everybody else can kiss your ass

But during National Character Counts Week
National Character Counts Week
National Everyone-Look-Down
On-Someone-Lower-Than-You Week
Remind the people who
Are inferior to you
It's only for a week, so have no fear
Be grateful that it doesn't last all year!

10. I managed to refrain from lying, cheating, stealing, robbing, raping,
pederasty, starting war, shooting Amish children, having people who disagree with me falsely arrested, pissing on the Constitution before using it as toilet paper - you know, the usual. And it wasn't even hard.

I fixed a few kitty booboos, too, and gave my assistant a raise.
