I live in right wing hell and still havent learned to keep my mouth shut. I cant stand it when these morons come out in defense of bush but then lack any facts with which to defend themselves. All they do is quote limbaugh. Heres a good example - i was trying to explain to a repuke that we are terrorists since we are always interfering in other peoples lives by subverting democratically elected government and then replacing them with vicious military thugs. Naturally i was given a blank stare so i explained about chile. Another blank stare until one of them got it and said the classic line which made my blood pressure go up to 300/10 "we only interfere in other people's country for their own good."!!!!!
Well i finally gave up and told them that i was just joking that chile was really something you ate with rice!
No one talks to me anymore.

Wouldn't it be refreshing to be the most right-wing person in a conversation? Move to our Commonwealth - my federal reps are Kennedy, Kerry, and Barney Frank. We have gun control and all sorts of stuff that works well. And amazing public schools.

I used to live in methuen, on the state line with NH. I loved it there but my wife who is from brazil couldnt take the winters anymore so we moved to ca.

Come further south this time, near Boston. I believe that Allston (part of Boston) has the largest or second-largest Brazillian population in the US. It was a riot when Brazil won the World Cup in 2002 - the whole place went nuts. We go over there to eat at the restaurants all of the time.

We live just down the road from Allston, in Newton - rated the safest city in the US, believe it or not.

Chavez... bad. Interfere in their elections.

Palenstinians... bad. Make no attempt to coax Israel out of occupied Palestinian lands and, in fact, aid and abet in the genocide of Palestinians.

Iranians... bad. Never mind U.S. interference in their country way back when the cia was torturing Iranians.

Democrats... bad. Swiftboat them all.

Social safety nets... bad. Screw your children. I got mine so go drop fucking dead.

Regulatory agencies... bad. Spraying pesticides around the environment of ghetto babies is for the greater good.

Iraqis... dead. WHOOPS. In this case, they DID reshape Iraq in their own image and pretty ugly.

Seriously, I'm surrounded by the apathetic & those who watch Faux News, too, & the way I handle it is to dole information out subtly & off-the-cuff fashion. Our problem is that there is such a long list of corruption & outrageousness that telling too much at one time is overwhelming & would make us come off looking as though we were wrapped in tin foil.

America is the greatest country in the world. I used to think back when I was 7 or 8, that the US should just take over every country and make them part of the United States. It made sense everything I was taught was that other countries were corrupt and ours was the best government ever dreamed of. Many Republicans still believe in something like that, except they dont want other countries to be part of the US, they want the US to teach them how to be like us. Of course its justifiable because even the worst in America is better than the best in those other countries.

Anytime talking to a Republican who thinks like this, and Ive talked to many you have to first bring them to realization that America isn't perfect. What I tend to go with is asking them when has America been a benevolent nation? Was it when the country was founded as we exterminated the Indians? Or anytime before the civil war when we built our country on the back of slavery? Or after the civil war can start talking about imperialism, although most republicans are so clueless about our imperial conquests its kinda hard. The Phillipenes is a good example to use because it was directly the US military slaughtering people. Our first anti-insurgancy war. After doing that gotta remind them then that you don't hate the US but you recognize that it isn't perfect, and maybe other countries do have things to offer the world.

Repukes only understand two basic emotions; hate and fear. Both of which get confused as Repukes lack the evolutionary trait of distinction between hate and fear. Sad really when you look at it.
They sometimes have jovial spasms, but I'm not convinced yet that it is a true emotion. More of an urge IMO.
