Paraguay in a spin about Bush's alleged 100,000 acre hideaway
http://www.guardian.co.uk/international/story/0,,1928928,00.html

Meeting the new couple next door can be an anxious business for even the most relaxed home owner. Will they be international drug traffickers? Have they got noisy kids with a penchant for electronic music? As worries go, however, having the US president move in next door must come fairly low on the list.

Unless of course you are a resident of northern Paraguay and believe reports in the South American press that he has bought up a 100,000 acre (40,500 hectare) ranch in your neck of the woods.

The rumours, as yet unconfirmed but which began with the state-run Cuban news agency Prensa Latina, have triggered an outpouring of conspiracy theories, with speculation rife about what President Bush's supposed interest in the "chaco", a semi-arid lowland in the Paraguay's north, might be. Some have speculated that he might be trying to wrestle control of the Guarani Aquifer, one of the largest underground water reserves, from the Paraguayans.

Rumours of Mr Bush's supposed forays into South American real estate surfaced during a recent 10-day visit to the country by his daughter Jenna Bush. Little is known about her trip to Paraguay, although officially she travelled with the UN children's agency Unicef to visit social projects. Photographers from the Paraguayan newspaper ABC Color tracked her down to one restaurant in Paraguay's capital Asunción, where she was seen flanked by 10 security guards, and was also reported to have met Paraguay's president, Nicanor Duarte, and the US ambassador to Paraguay, James Cason. Reports in sections of the Paraguayan media suggested she was sent on a family "mission" to tie up the land purchase in the "chaco".

7. Second time I read about this and it is still odd,
I frankly do not see our President living out side the USA. I am not sure why I feel that way. I also can not see the girls doing a deal. I think we need to know more on this one. Buying up water I can see. It is the coming war stuff I think. Oil will be child's play.

31. Perhaps that is the case
Perhaps Bush knows once he is out of office if the democrats don't get to him first he can still have a chance to run to Paraguay. Do the Bush family have any ties to them in any sort of way so they'd protect jr?

12. He's too provincial and narrow minded
to care to live anywhere outside the US, IMO. Of course, if things get too heated here, perhaps a little Paraguayan protective hideaway might not be too bad. Didn't a lot of the Nazis go there to avoid extradition?

14. Narrow mind fits the bill on Bush. I think he is smart but is
so un-sure he goes just one way. It gets to be a thing with people like that. Do not let one new thing in your mind as you may have been wrong. I love the elite who always think money makes them smart.

13. Water is the future commodity to control and get rich off
We all can live somehow without the oil that the Bushies and friends have made zillions of dollars on. Water on the other hand is now becoming a wanted commodity in the USA and the rest of the world. The US government wants water on the NAFTA table with Canada. Canadians are not at all interested in this. I am sure Harper would like to help out his American neocon friends but he will most likely be voted out of office the coming election.

Paraguay citizens may not be aware of what their government is doing. I suspect that Bush family knows where the next market for profits is and they are making preparations to continue their riches.

I also agree that establishing a large land base in Paraguay is very handy for attacking the leftist governments now in South America.

Moonies have been rumored to be involved with drug smuggling as well as the Bush family. It will be interesting as to how this develops.

that Poland Spring uses for their water. Believe me, it's more valuable than oil judging by the way the neighbors are fighting over water rights.

16. Isn't Paraguay a hideout for ex-Nazi ?
Edited on Mon Oct-23-06 07:05 AM by SpiralHawk
Commander AWOL should feel right at home there, since it is a documented fact that his grandfather, Prescott Bush, was a traitor to the USA and the special banker to Hitler and the Nazis.

Why did the Bush family ensure that the Nazis had the money to buy guns to kill our sons and daughters?

Has America ever had a more traitorous entity than Commander AWOL's grandpoppy: Prescott Bush?

23. Paraguay, Stroessner, Kissinger - Operation Condor

Alfredo Stroessner
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfredo_Stroessner
Stroessner became president and then was re-elected to 7 consecutive terms (in 1958, 1963, 1968, 1973, 1978, 1983, 1988). In many of these elections, he was either the sole candidate, or the fairness of the election was heavily disputed. He stayed in power for 35 years, with only Fidel Castro having a longer tenure among 20th century Latin American leaders.

~

Stroessner showed definite sympathies to ex-Nazis and ex-Fascists, many of whom were in the approximately 200,000 Germans who came to Paraguay after the World War II, a group that included the infamous Dr. Josef Mengele, whom Stroessner repeatedly denied extradition requests to Israel. After twice denying extradition requests for Mengele, Stroessner was heavily criticized by the world media. Stroessner also used ex-Fascist officers and soldiers in the army of Paraguay, some of whom belonged to the Ustaše like the army officer Baresíc.<1>

Operation "Condor"

Although Stroessner was a very strict autocrat, he did become more tolerant of political opposition over the course of time. However, it is estimated by some that his regime, which took part in Operation Condor with Augusto Pinochet and Jorge Rafael Videla, cost the lives of between 400 and 3,000 people due to strong-arm tactics during his 35-year rule.

Kissinger
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Kissinger
On September 11, 2001, the 28th anniversary of the Pinochet coup, Chilean human rights lawyers filed a criminal case against Kissinger along with Augusto Pinochet, former Bolivian general and president Hugo Banzer, former Argentine general and dictator Jorge Rafael Videla, and former Paraguayan president Alfredo Stroessner for alleged involvement in Operation Condor. The case was brought on behalf of some fifteen victims of Operation Condor, ten of whom were Chilean.

Quite a cozy group. Bloody Latin American dictators, Henry Kissinger and Nazi war criminals.

Bush's reading list covers salt, czar, flu

Warren Vieth
Los Angeles Times
Aug. 19, 2005 12:00 AM

CRAWFORD, Texas - Gas prices are climbing, motorists are fuming and President Bush is at his ranch with a book about the history of salt.

There could be a connection.

According to the White House, one of three books Bush chose to read on his five-week vacation is Salt: A World History by Mark Kurlansky, who chronicled the rise and fall of what once was considered the world's most strategic commodity.

28. Ok, the parallels are becoming too common
From the beginning of a review ...
"The world is full of deposed dictators and dictator hangers-on, whiling away their imposed retirement living high on the hog on money looted from the treasuries of the countries from which they were forced to flee..."
... for the movie, 'The Boys of Brazil.'
Our story begins with a (young man) sneakily following a well-dressed old man around some city in Paraguay. The old man is an escaped ... war criminal ...

Intoxicated with excitement at what he has learned, Barry calls his hero, ... Lieberman, at his home/office ... Lieberman is less than impressed. As he snidely tells his sister, “This young man has just discovered that there are (neo-cons) in Paraguay.”
