Texans: Early voting begins TODAY

Get out and give the assholes their pink slips.

Don't vote absentee if you can vote EV.

Why ? Because if you do, you will not case a vote for the Dem candidate in the 21st or 25th congressional district. In those districts, even if a voter selects straight-party ticket for the rest of the statewide races, he or she still has to check a box specifically to select a candidate for the U.S. congressional race. If no box is checked in that race, the ballot won't register a vote for any congressional candidate.

Get the word out on this because thousands of votes could be at stake. In 2004, 57 percent of the 106,000 Democratic votes cast in Travis County selected the straight-ticket option, and 41 percent of the almost 77,000 Republican votes did so.


This time around, when voters in the affected districts see the ballot, the first voting option they'll get will be the separate, special congressional election. To cast a ballot in that race, this first screen must be marked for a candidate, county election clerks said. Then the voter will get the option to also mark a straight-ticket ballot.

While this seems clear enough, this is not the time be quiet about this "special" requirement.

I was just about to go vote when I saw this thread and your reply. Does the info you posted only apply to the two races you mentioned, or the entire state? I'm in District 14 - the Sklar/Paul race. Thanks!

I'm in Dallas, will try to get out this week and cast my vote. Let's hope it'll count this time.

Went by the Fiesta near the Reliant Center today, where there's almost always early voting. Usually long lines.

Didn't notice. Next time, for sure.
