REPORT: Bush Officials Were ‘Rooting’ For N Korea to Test Nuclear Weapon
REPORT: Bush Officials Were ‘Rooting’ For North Korea to Test Nuclear Weapon
Senior Bush administration officials wanted North Korea to test a nuclear weapon because it would prove their point that the regime must be overthrown.

This astonishing revelation was buried in the middle of a Washington Post story published yesterday. Glenn Kessler reports from Moscow as he accompanies Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice:

Before North Korea announced it had detonated a nuclear device, some senior officials even said they were quietly rooting for a test, believing that would finally clarify the debate within the administration. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/21/AR2006102100296_pf.html

Until now, no U.S. official in any administration has ever advocated the testing of nuclear weapons by another country, even by allies such as the United Kingdom and France.

2. Just remember, Condi has said EVERY situation presents opportunities
Don't doubt for a single second that that is a guiding philosophy of this administration.

The real question is how much this insane administration "games" the world scene. It seems to be a lot as belligerence and brinksmanship are the major policy tools.

6. Of course, the neocons want a war where they can use nuclear weapons
...to demonstrate that the U.S. not only has superiority in nuclear weapons technology but is unafraid to use such weapons with minimal provocation. The neocons also want to use nuclear weapons sooner rather than later, so I am sure we are now very close to a nuclear war with some nation, likely Iran, perhaps N. Korea or even Iraq. The Bush diplomacy efforts are a scam designed not to promote peace efforts by to block any alternatives which might lead to compromise and peace so that war becomes inevitable. Damn Bush, Cheney and all of their cronies.

The loyal bootlickers are saying, in effect:

"Good! She's (Condi) right. We needed to know if NK had nukes. It is a plus because now we can push China."

This leaves me confused.

Clinton era 1994 Agreed Framework - bad.
Bush waiver of inspection requirements - good.
NK tests nuke - Clinton's fault yet good for the US?

:wtf::crazy::wtf:

23. Plausible to me, I predicted emerg. session of Congress
my October Surprise was an emergency seesion of congress to make the GOP look all tough and full of shit and stuff, so when the NK test went off, I had a hint that they knew it was coming and we're planning for it. But the Foley scandal upended that plan and so no emergency session ever occured. I think that really couahgt them off guard more than we know and the story had legs for far onger than anyone could have predicted, and the GOP did that to themselves. So, if there was a Foely effect, it's that it may have totally fucked up a possible Oct surprise

24. divorced from reality is right
<snip>

The revelation that some officials secretly wanted North Korea to test their nuclear weapons is evidence of how the administration’s national security policy has become completely divorced from reality.

26. It's totally plausible, but I personally don't buy it.
While this crowd is certainly crazy enough to see a mushroom cloud in North Korea as a _good_ thing, to me this reads like another reprise of the "flypaper theory": a bullshit after-the-fact rationalization concocted to make it look like the administration always _meant_ to become mired in the quicksand that currently traps it. They would rather come across as clinically insane than admit they were wrong about anything.

C ya,

It's not to "...prove their point that the regime must be overthrown...," If you ever want to figure out why they would do or think something this stupid, just look for the Money trail.

Who would benefit from this?

This is, and always was since the very beginning back in 2001, about sucking those $100's of Billions of Dollars out the National Treasury for that Stupid new Star Wars program, the "Strategic Missile Defense System" or what ever they are calling it now. They need a Crazy "Communist Dictator" with missiles and a bomb to justify that Stupid, will NEVER work, Missile Defense program, so they can pass all that money to their big campaign donors, then they pass some of it back later.

40. Well as someone who lives in Hawaii
Edited on Tue Oct-24-06 06:46 AM by symbolman
I think this is a GREAT IDEA. As a matter of fact I was thinking just how GREAT it was the other day as I RODE a PIECE of CONCRETE while the concrete in my driveway, sidewalk and cul de sac all cracked and bounced, and all the cars in front of my house WAGGED back and forth, while the power went out..

THe minute that 6.8 Earthquake hit and I was outside having a smoke, I truely thought that Honolulu had been LIT UP by Korea, and was ready to drag my family to the nearest Radiology Center/Hospital and find some LEAD to hide behind.

Turning on the car radio and scanning and receiving NO TRANSMISSIONS AT ALL made me feel so much safer as well.

These fucking bastards let N. Korea kill or harm my wife and son and it won't be the N. Koreans that will pay for it, I guarantee you that, even if I have to cut my hair and PRETEND to be a Right Winger and work my way up through the ranks, there would be hell to pay at some point.

Sounds silly, but you know they DID TEACH ME TO KILL when I was drafted in 1971, and this certainly sounds like "enemies WITHIN" which I swore to FIGHT as well as Protect the Constitution, unlike BUSH or CHENEY, or RUMSFELD or any of the rest of these chickenshits.

Dear Condi, better make goddam sure that fucking nuke comes down my CHIMNEY or you will be sorry you were ever born. I moved here to be as FAR AWAY as possible from the likes of you, but if you impact ME or Family then it really will be WAR.

Meanwhile fuck off, get tried for war crimes and catch a disease, maybe anal cancer, and we'll call it even.

(Disclaimer: This is the kind of humor that Limaugh promotes so Mr Gonzales you can be sure that I represent no real harm to any of these people in power. But if someone was to shoot at them, you better believe that I would DUCK, and let the SS take care of their masters, not my job to protect them :) Maybe someone like CHENEY can come and spent a LONG Holiday here in Hawaii while the administration PISSES OFF AN INSANE DICTATOR WITH NUKES that can HIT HERE, California, Oregon,etc..)
