Israel admits phosphorus bombing

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/6075408.stm

Israel has for the first time admitted it used controversial phosphorus shells during fighting against Hezbollah in Lebanon in July and August.
Cabinet minister Jacob Edery confirmed the bombs were dropped "against military targets in open ground".

-snip-

Mr Edery says he confirmed during a parliamentary session last week on behalf of Defence Minister Amir Peretz that the weapons were used in fighting.

"The Israeli army made use of phosphorus shells during the war against Hezbollah in attacks against military targets in open ground," he said.

Israeli forces said the arms used in Lebanon did not contravene international norms.

4. War Criminals
And now an open fascist advocating ethnic cleansing in the Israeli government.
Tell me again Israel apologists, why are we Americans expected to support this with our tax dollars? Why are we expected to allow AIPAC to subvert our government? Why are we expected to allow a possibly nuclear attack on Iran at the behest of a rogue regime that scoffs at international law, by building apartheid walls, uses chemical weapons on civilians, refuses to open its nuclear program to inspection and plans ethnic cleansing and illegal land grabs?

6. Chemical weapons? that's new to me
When did they use chemical weapons? I remember some Lebanese doctors were suggesting chemical weapons but I thought that ended up not going anywhere.

5. Is he saying targets were engaged, or it was used as illum?
WP has both uses. And if he means that military targets in open ground were engaged with WP munitions (rather than simply illuminated), and if he's not lying, that's legal to do.

*shrug*. I don't know. There are some pushbutton issues in DU and two of them are clustered munitions and WP. Neither has an international legal instrument controlling them, but it seems to be a pretty common meme that there is. WP is not a chemical agent, though it seems to be a pretty common meme that it is. To me, the problem was that the IDF was striking areas where the civilians had not cleared out yet, not that they used this or that specific munition.

"The Geneva Conventions ban the use of white phosphorus as an incendiary weapon against civilian populations
and in air attacks against military forces in civilian areas."

Bolding is mine.
