Need some help outing a "family values" Repuke candidate
who as with most family values repukes doesn't follow his own advice.
Jim Nussle is running for governor of Iowa. He is most famous in DU circles as the chairman of the House budget committee and the architect of the Bushco budgets that have run us trillions in debt.
Nussle was married with two children, one a special needs child (Downs Syndrome) and a first year congressman when he started running around on his wife. He eventually married a woman who had been Newt's secretary and then a lobbyist for Pharma.
(from Nussle & Flow)http://nusslewatch.blogspot.com/2005/06/jim-nussle-has-been-bad-for-his.html

Then there is the issue of his private life. The precise details are sketchy, but he was pulled into an extra-marital affair, leading to a messy public divorce, with his subsequent remarriage to wife #2, Karen Chiccehitto Nussle. The common scuttlebutt is that Karen was the other women, and if she is (as it seems she is) then let's call her what she really is: a homewrecking slut: strike one. Karen was also a policy advisor to Newt Gingrich: strike two. She then revolving-doored into the lobbying firm of Black, Kelly, Scruggs and Healey (that's as in Charles Black, the infamous Republican insider): strike three. She is currently listed as an instructor at the University of Dubuque (teaching Homewrecking 101 no doubt).

Here is the point. Absolutely no press in Iowa is saying one word about this. We have written LTTEs til we are blue in the face. Nuslle keeps talking about his family and faith. Truth is he pretty much abandoned his family.
Our last hope is to bombard their open anonymous line called "your 2 cents worth". Here is the message I left:

"Why won’t the Register tell the story of how Jim Nussle ran around on his wife in a sordid affair, and then dumped his family to marry a Washington lobbyist. This ain’t the kind of man anyone wants to lead them."
Just say you are an outraged viter of some such crap.
Here is the number:
515-284-8244
Thanks

1. Seems like a sleazy repuke tactic. Aren't we better than that?

2. What's sleazy about the electorate being informed about
the hypocrisy of a candidate?

4. Is the guy running on "family values"? What's his platform?
Does he want to tell consenting adults what they can or can't do with their reproductive systems or in their bedrooms?

If he's a platitudinizing Hypocrite (and, really, what Republican these days isn't?) I would think it should be fair game.

5. Has said he would sign a South Dakota-type abortion bill
Is often portrayed as a family man "married with 2 children". Couldn't even remember his son's name during a debate 2 weeks ago.

7. Well, he is against abortion
He is against gay marriage, indeed gay rights of any kind, he is a so called moral guy, he claims his daughter, whom he abandoned for his current trophy wife and has Down syndrome was a "Gift from God", while just barely acknowledging her existence except when it's convenient, such as now while he's running for Governor of our great state. And he's batshit crazy as well. I have a thread about one of the debates between him and Culver in the Iowa forum. In fact, he may well may be the most hated man in said forum. With good reason. Please help out the OP by giving your two cents worth.

6. This is a story that was in the public ten years ago when it was
going on. "Outing" was a poor choice of words. "Reminding" may have been better. What is amazing is the collective amnesia of the press on this. Radio, TV and newspapers. His opponent in the primary was prepared to slam Nussle hard with his infidelity until Nussle convinced him to be his running mate.
Talk about sleazy.

16. Remind the voters who may have
heard about his view of "family values" and out him to ones who don't already know. This man oozes sleaze.

11. Sleazier than him hoisting his disabled daughter on his shoulders
in a campaign ad all while filing for divorce in a county outside of the district so the press wouldn't get ahold of it until after the elections? (Oh and then having his divorce decree sealed so that nobody knows what type of settlement or pay-off the asshole had to make) Or just sleazier than the Chair of the Budget Committee screwing Newt Gingrich's press secretary while his wife and two children are back at home in Manchester, Iowa?

He used his family (most importantly his marriage and his disabled daughter) to get reelected. He was having an affair. He then used his disabled daughter (AGAIN) in a candidate questionnaire about his belief in God and religious convictions. THERE ISN'T A WHOLE LOT THAT COULD GET MUCH SLEAZIER THAN THAT!!!

8. Sounds to me like you're demonizing her more than him.
Leave her sex life and morals out of it. Go after his if you must, but portraying her as a "slut" and "homewrecker" smacks of sexism to me.

9. I was looking for a story on his infidelity
Unfortunatewly there are very few out there adn places like wikipedia have been scrubbed.
The point is again that we have a candidate for high office who exhibits the usual hypocrisy and absolutely no press will do anything.
Iowa's Des Moines Register used to be considered one of the 10 best papaers in the country. Exposing crap like this was their bread and butter. Now they will not even touch this story.

12. Would 'political climber' be a better term for the woman?
I would place a bet that if Congressman Nussle doesn't become Governor Nussle then Mrs. Nussle the Second will soon become Ex-Mrs. Nussle the Second and back on K-Street rather than being an adjunct professor at the University of Dubuque and living in Manchester, Iowa. The woman worked for the Speaker of the House and started up an affair with the Chair of the Budget Committee. She doesn't seem to aim very low does she?

10. Iowa Dems have been burying the Des Moines Register..
with LTTE about Nussle's hypocrisy and they haven't printed a word about it. Two weeks ago they ran a story about Nussle being a "man of faith". This is the guy who can't remember his own son's name and won't even put a picture of his kids on his website-even though when he was still married to wife #1 they appeared in EVERY campaign ad.

15. You guys should start picketing the offices of the Des Moines Register.
They sound like they're almost a bigger problem than Nussle is. It's not possible to have a free election without a free press, and it looks like you guys haven't got one. I wonder what they would be saying about him if he were a Democrat?
