Alyssa Eickmeier, a 2-year-old who was hospitalized after a police officer allegedly assaulted her, died Sunday afternoon at Children’s Mercy Hospital, Kansas City police said.

Nicholas A. Minet, 28, a Kansas City police officer, was charged Friday with first-degree assault and abuse of a child. According to court records, Minet was baby-sitting the girl Thursday at a home in the 400 block of Northwest 71st Terrace when he became frustrated with her crying.

He allegedly threw Alyssa down on a mattress and shook her, leaving her with brain injuries and a skull fracture, court records said. There were also bruises on her neck, back and forehead, as well as an adult bite mark on her left leg.

The girl underwent emergency surgery as doctors tried to relieve pressure in her brain. Although Alyssa initially seemed to improve, her condition worsened so much by Saturday that her father acknowledged she was going to die.

One can hope. I'd say chances are 50/50 for him to be found guilty. it is an innocent 2-year old, after all.

I just wish I could inflict the same pain that this creep inflicted on this child. Just imagine this is what he does to a child, what does he do to a suspect ? Does he shoot jaywalkers for fun ?

So that is why he was babysitting, had nothing to do with his duties as a cop.
