Today on Fox News, Neil Cavuto had a segment asking whether Democrats will “crush the economy” if they win November’s elections. One of the guests, Jonathan Hoenig, said they would, because Democrats’ “overriding philosophy is socialism.”

The Bush administration has increased federal spending levels to unprecedented proportions, normally the hallmark of a left leaning administration. By comparison, Clinton cut spending considerably and left with a substantial surplus in the annual budget.

Its funny what they accuse us of, that they do more of themselves.

We need a massive investment in rebuilding our infrastructure, and universal health care for all, and encouraging union membership to grow, and a policy to encourage immigrants to become citizens, and a substantial tax increase for the rich, and better education for our children from pre-school to college, and a living wage, and .....

About 120 years ago these ideas were considered dangerous, radical, Socialist. It's a sad commentary on the state of our nation that many republicans still think they are. If that's Socialism - sign me up.

First of all, socialist governments do not inevitably 'crush the economy'. Indeed, there have been plenty of economically successful socialist governments in various countries.

Secondly, which Democrats have an 'overriding philosophy of socialism'? I would really be interested in knowing!
