Which party do you think will control the Senate after the election?

not which party will have the most people vote for it.

The Republican Party, no matter the composition of the Senate for teh 110th Congress, is going to have some serious soul-searching to do, an undertaking made all the more difficult because most of them don't have souls to begin with.

The likely Thug leader will be McConnell of Kentucky, but their number 1 guy now -- THE CAT BUTCHER -- is off to run for the top job and their no. 3 guy (?) -- Santorum -- is very likely about to be turned out by voters.

The House is ours. I'm already psyched up for Speaker Pelosi.

And the Senate well within reach. And I'm optimistic.

Whose gonna bolt?

I'd like to see Olympia Snowe hold a press conference and announce that she has felt like a stranger in her party for some time, and that she really has little in common with slobbering nitwits like Saxby Chambliss and John Cornyn and Tom Coburn -- that bunch -- and that after conferring with the Maine Democratic Party, an agreement was reached and that she would represent her constituents from this point forward as a Democrat.

I think Sheldon Whitehouse is our winner in Rhode Island, but should Chafee somehow pull it out in the 11th hour, he would be an idiot to remain in the GOP. His constituents, even more than Snowe's, are strongly Democratic.

Norm Coleman likely remains GOP, but his pollsters and demographers will tell him privately that he's increasingly vulnerable. Minnesota seems to be pumping blue blood here lately, kind of like peak DFL days.
(I'm not sure I want Coleman in our party, but he's shrewd enough to realize the tide is turning bluer than he thought it might.)

And there's a long-shot chance that a private meeting will be held between Schumer and George Voinovich, where the offer of a powerful Committee Chair is dangled before him and he switches parties to accept it. He challenged Bush on tax cuts and on John Bolton, and has never wholly been loved by the Republicans. He's likely on his last term and has no election fears, as he's very popular in Ohio.

During Wellstone's last campaign, they often showed the video of a passionately pro-Wellstone speech Coleman made at the DFL convention TWO years before he ran against him as a Republican.

(BTW, if they ever do a movie about Coleman, they should have Ben Affleck play him. With Ben's politics, he could have a lot of fun taking the guy apart, and there is a strong physical resemblance.)

Love your idea of Affleck as Norm in the film version.
