Impeachment is appealing but likely impractical but depends on which way the wind blows in the next two years-we probably haven't seen the worst of Iraq yet.

But, its also urgent to start trying to undo the damage the a*holes have done in the past few years. Serious climate change legislation is imperative, serious measures towards pulling out of Iraq with minimum damage to that unfortunate country, fixing healthcare and so on....
Oh and of course reverse the gutting of civil liberties...

5. If Democrats want to pursue impeachment with a congressional majority, fine

but everyone here better be prepared for the inevitable falling short of votes and fizzling out of impeachment at some point in the process. There are too many DLCers in the House from red districts who would ruin it, and even if it passed the House, the votes would never be there in the Senate. The best case scenario in the Senate for Democrats would be a majority of 52-48, and of course, you need 67--two thirds--for a conviction. Even if all 52 Senate Democrats voted yes (unlikely as well), then you'd need 14 Republican votes. Never going to happen.

I'm pretty sure investigations will lead to impeachment.

I'm sure that's what Pelosi's "pledge" really means. She can always say, "well, no one could ever have imagined the depths to which this adminstration broke the law." I think that would be a great line.

Yours is a sound plan. I have been surprised that a separate DU forum for the 06 election wasn't opened, all about what you can do, how to do it, essential info etc. I scanned the Activist HQ and the Election reform too and I didn't find much.

I'm a foreigner, but that saddened me.

Unfortunately, my GOTV or call to action threads never get more than a few responses.

I admit I jumped on the bandwagon with this thread, but mainly to show that DU is still as united a front as it once was.

10. If an investigation and impeachment means our Democratic Congress

is going to be tied up on that instead of fixing the Repuke's nefarious activities and legislation, then I say "No". And I am afraid that an investigation would cause an already underworked congress to spend even less time on getting the People's work done, like fixing pensions, govt corruption, campaign finance, minimum wage, Iraq, etc.

I don't want the Dems to be a "Do-nothing" Congress.

11. I hear you - and respect what you are saying

If I had to fill out the priority for the dems after a victory, it would be campaign finance and the associated corruption. Because that is where the people end up with representatives that listen to special interests.

12. I'd love to impeach the bastard and the rest of them. And I'd love to see them

in the Hague. But it may come at too high a cost to the constituency and the party in the long run.
