5. Throughout the day, I find that reading DU and an occasional

check in at Talking Points Memo keeps me well informed - far better than by watching TV or listening to the radio, since all the breaking news (and news that should be breaking) are all here first - I think that we are kept well ahead of the curve (which is so, so frustrating....)

6. Other- I cannot remember the last time I learnt anything new from TV

I get my news from a combo platter of NYT, WaPo, Boston Globe, DU, TPM, Kos,HuffPo and a few other lefty blogs.
I find DU's LBN and greatest page very useful.

Actually on edit, CSPAN does sometimes have a lot of interesting stuff. But, really I don't remember the last time I learnt something new from tv. I love Colbert, Olbermann and TDS but thats mostly cause they say what I am thinking ;).

I find the concept of getting news from TDS or TCR bizarre...it seems like you need to be a politics junkie to get most of what they are satirizing :shrug:

Avoid television altogether. The only way to get accurately informed is to read deep history, Howard Zinn, Frantz Fanon, Noam Chomsky, John Pilger leap to mind. Get away from all mainstream sound byte explanations and replace that with first hand accounts from people on the ground.

10. I remember reading Howard Zinn's

"A people's history of the United States" and doing some follow up reading and comparing that information with more mainstream history books and noticing the difference in the way major events like the dust bowl, the depression etc. are treated by the different sources.
Ironically a lot of folk music and fiction probably give a clearer picture of those times than more scholarly descriptions of the same :-/....

I remember watching an interview with Zinn where he said that he learnt more from Woody Guthrie's songs than many of his history books!
