I've always wondered if the Impeachment of Bill Clinton was part of a GOP\NeoCon plan to inoculate a future Republican administration. I mean, most in the GOP lead House had to know that their charges against Clinton didn't truly rise to an impeachable offense, and many semi-pragmatic rePukes had to know that the Senate would never vote to remove a sitting President from office on such charges. So why the hell did they put the nation through so much bombastic bullshit? To me it was a form of Impeachment Vaccine.
We know these guys are patient (sorta like Al Que-da, no?) and tend to plan out years in advance. Florida in 2000 was planned in advance. As was invading Iraq and, many of us believe, 9-11 and\or the lack of response to\prevention of it. So just maybe, the entire Kabuki theater that was the Clinton Impeachment, was designed just for this moment in time. If the American people were to turn against this right-wing cabal, they would not turn so far as to impeach because they don't have the stomach for going through all that shit again.
But...
I used to tease my rightwingnut acquaintances with a theory that went something like this. I used to tell them that they would have had a better chance getting rid of Clinton (or at least hobbling him) if they and their political whackjobs had toned it way the hell down, and had in fact just acted concerned for the country while letting it be a "Democratic Party" problem. I would remind them that when I heard the news and verification of Clinton's dalliances, I was furious. All the Gary Hart crap came rushing back, and I couldn't believe somebody as brilliant as Clinton could have made such a monumentally stupid mistake. I would tell my RW friends that if it weren't for their over-the-top behavior, WE might have asked for Clinton's head on a platter.
But history tells us that in their joy and shrillness, the GOP managed to get not only OUR backs up in defense of Clinton, they got most of the country's up as well. And when the people saw that this was inherently unfair, they backed the scoundrel regardless. We definitely do not want that in this case.
However...
If we were to take the House, and especially if we were to take the Senate as well, we could start uncovering all the misdeeds, lies, corruption, and general criminality of this congress and this administration. And if done effectively, it wouldn't be a Democratic Congress impeaching this president, as much as it would be the American people demanding that they do so.
My question is this: Do we start the investigations from beginning to end (2000 - Present), go from present backwards, or just pick 3 or 4 major scandals that in coming to light would rock the electorate? IOW - Investigate the snot out of them, and get everything out there, or just find the choice nuggets that would basically put it all together for the American populace?
