What about this "Never fails gop get out the vote" talk all of a sudden?
It seems to be the talking point of the day. In spite of all the bad news they come back with this threat, they claim it will save the day.

1. True or not, why not nip it in the bud by hanging small cardboard
likenesses of Bill Clinton's head in the doorways of all known Republicans on election day? They only have to be about the size of car air fresheners. That'll keep them inside all day, frightened and angry, but unable to leave. So much for the energized base!

2. What they leave out is that their voters aren't pleased with them
The Republican base isn't as solid as it was in 2004, so getting out the vote isn't exactly easy for them this time.

3. They weren't anywhere near as far behind in 2004
and they almost lost that. In fact, they did lose. And that was for a presidential election.

They don't have a prayer. They're swirling in the toilet bowl.

4. "Get out the vote" is cover for election fraud
The Republicans always know that election fraud is going to greatly benefit themselves, and that this year in particular is going to require a lot of fraud. They will claim a spectacular "get out the vote" campaign as a reason for their unexpected success. Don't kid yourselves - the conditioning program has already begun.

5. It's called creating the stage
When the republicans steal the election this time (which they will unless the spread is too wide to "fudge"), this will be the media's way of legitimizing it for them. "Gee, the GOP sure did get out the vote! Why, just yesterday, they were behind by ten points! It sure must work! Yup! Now stay tuned for this message from WalMart!"

6. Agree with Dumak and PSPS.
This GOP GOTV is all about pre-excuse for the stolen election. Last time they fed us the "values voters" crap, which was a Big Fat Lie.

Now, they're working on the Marvelous GOP Get Out The Vote Machine. If this next election is stolen, the M$M will crow about that Marvelous Machine.

It's Pre-Crime Cover Their Asses.

7. Because they have a 7% advantage in most districts - - & because it's true
Edited on Tue Oct-24-06 01:22 AM by AlGore-08.com
The GOP have a built in advantage in most districts due to gerrymandering. Here's Krugman on the subject, recapped at Bob Somerby's blog, to avoid the NYTimes missile defense shield:

http://www.dailyhowler.com/dh101606.shtml

KRUGMAN (10/13/06): Unless the Bush administration is keeping Osama bin Laden in a freezer somewhere, a majority of Americans will vote Democratic this year. If Congressional seats were allocated in proportion to popular votes, a Democratic House would be a done deal. But they aren't, and the way our electoral system works, combined with the way ethnic groups are distributed, still gives the Republicans some hope of holding on.

The key point is that African-Americans, who overwhelmingly vote Democratic, are highly concentrated in a few districts. This means that in close elections many Democratic votes are, as political analysts say, wasted—they simply add to huge majorities in a small number of districts, while the more widely spread Republican vote allows the G.O.P. to win by narrower margins in a larger number of districts.

(snip)

KRUGMAN: My back-of-the-envelope calculations suggest that because of this ''geographic gerrymander,'' even a substantial turnaround in total Congressional votes...would leave the House narrowly in Republican hands. It looks as if the Democrats need as much as a seven-point lead in the overall vote to take control.

Also, the Republicans have a much, much better organized GOTV program. They spend tons of money identifying voters and getting them to the polls - - they've spent tons more money on this for many more years than we have.

And they focus on it. They were surprised when Gore won the popular vote in 2000, so they spent a couple million studying his GOTV program. They then used those ideas developed by Gore's team to help them out mobilize us in 2002.

The DNC likes to "brag" at the end of the 2000 campaign Gore got 51 million votes and the DNC didn't know who a single one of them was.

8. Because demoralized "values voters" are in real danger of sitting at home
watching computer animated vegetables sing about Jesus all day.

and everyone will pretend to be shocked.
