Does Hastert think the Dems withheld knowledge of Foley relationship with pages?
I think he does. Why else push the investigation so quickly. I think he believes Pelosi or others know of Foley's contacts and kept quite until before elections. If he could prove this, it would lessen the bite of the scandal ("Dems risked Foley molesting a child for political gain"), and maybe save his job if Republicans are reelected.

I sensed a sor to certainty at the news conference following his testimony the other day.

I'm NOT saying he is right (by any means and certainly hope he is wrong), but analysing the material.

And I think it's certainly something worth consideration, not that anyone can help if it's true.

1. I think he says, but I don't think he really believes it
As for the speed of the investigation, there really was no choice. They needed to start the investigation in order to change the story from cover up to doing something. The fact that virtually no Democrats have been called before the committee suggests to me that Hastert's barking out his ass.

2. No, the one Dem on the Page Committee wasn't even told about
Foley's disgusting antics.

I mean everyone probably knew he was gay; that was it.

3. Let's get real
How many politician would sit on damaging info about their opponents for 9 years? while pages are being harrassed no less?

It was his fat ass that sat on the info while calling the jist of it "overly friendly" (!)

4. It was Pelosi who called for the immediate investigation by
the ethics committee and a preliminary report in ten days. She put the republicans in a box. They had no choice but to vote for it.

5. He is spinning, it's what they do
He will make it sound like it was HIS idea to have the investigation and thereby point the finger "indirectly" at the dirty Dems, giving the impression that it was THEY who witheld info. Never mind the truth... its only important that he cover his fat ass. gods forgive me but I really am starting to hate them.

6. FOLEY brought on the immediate investigation with his resignation.
His unprecedentedly SPEEDY resignation.
The guy announced it just 2 hours after he got
the first call from reporters.
As Will Pitt put it, "he was gone so quick,
he left his shadow still on the wall".
