3. You know, I was shocked. They are blocking Talking Points Memo
I always thought that site was relatively mild.

4. When I was in the corps back in the early 80's
there was no internet and only one channel in english in Japan, the Armed Forces Network.

They would never censor a segment of the news if there was a report that they did not want us to see, they just skipped the entire program that night. They knew we had no way to find out all the news that was on and pick out which one they didn't want us to see.

Nothing new here, sorry to say. They will pipe in Rush everyday, but no Al Franken, never, ever.

11. It's been going longer than that
Dr Strangelove was banned from the AF movie theaters. Of course, the fact we SAC trained killers could go downtown and check it out never seemed to enter the minds{sic} of Them What Be In Charge.

6. As recently as 4 months
ago when I was stationed at Ft. Jackson, SC I was not able to access DU from any on post computer, including the Post library. I was able to access Repug sites. I complained to the Post Information Operations people about that but nothing ever changed. So I took my personal laptop and wifi card and went to a nearby Panera Bread COmpany store, ate supper and read DU in peace. In the barracks and post housing, if you subscribe to local internet service or cable, no problem getting DU or any other site, but official post computrs....firewalls are up and in place....

9. Actually, its the result of the Rummy purge after 9-11.
We lost a quite a few well-qualified military administrators who would not work under the "my way or the highway" administration. So the current leaders are the ass-kissers, the brown-nosers and the bullies. There is no way that this crap would be tolerated under the military prior to 9-11. We now have the guys who were the toadies to guys like General Clark.

8. same since athens
Do you think the charge against socrates
were ultimately anything more than state
sensorship of his blog? The youth are getting
fucked by the bush's in iraq, and they must be set
beyond corruption from truth, left to the festering futility of
corporate malaise (sorry, you picked the user name ;-) ).

17. Exactly. It's never been about terrorism to begin with.
It's all about control. Who can control the populace? Who can control elections? Who can control the military? This administration and their "my way or the highway" attitude has got to go. We cannot wait two more years.

19. I disagree with impeachment. I think it would allow freepers to feel sorry
for the * WH. Then again... I don't have to live with them in power..I'm not American.

14. I wonder if they could use a proxy server, like the Chinese do, to get past

the firewall.

Chinese web surfers have to use proxy servers to look at non-government filtered websites.

look at the replies these military personnel make. They are onto the bastards and pissed at being denied their 1st Amendment rights!

They even have a plan to send the censored information via e-mail. This is the same kind of "revolution in the ranks" that happened in the Vietnam War.

I can still access and post to Democraticunderground, among other left-leaning sites, from DoD-supported networks, including OSD, NGB, and USA.
