"'Privacy' policy under attack": KS students challenge military recruitment rules
Here in Lawrence, KS, two high school students are making a documentary about the provision in the No Child Left Behind Act that punishes students who don't want to be stalked and harassed by military recruiters:
Buried in the 670 pages of the federal No Child Left Behind law was a requirement that high schools provide lists of students’ names, telephone numbers and addresses to military recruiters.

Students can get off the list if they or their parents notify the school district in writing that they want to opt out.

But there’s a catch. Those who opt off the list find themselves also excluded from the lists provided to college and job recruiters. And opting out also means a student’s name cannot be published in yearbooks, honor rolls or newspapers (emphasis added).

Now, two Lawrence High School students are out to change that policy. They want students to be able to opt off the military’s list without being excluded from the other benefits of student life.

1. Leave it to this admin to screw everybody equally - except their buds.

I hope those kids win. Maybe we should define separation of church, state, and private life.

2. Another measure of our country's militarization
Gotta get the word out there, because the depressing reality of war just doesn't sell the military like slick ads and constant badgering from recruiters.

There was a terrific letter to the editor in the Oregonian this morning from a man whose father served in World War II, and he served in Vietnam as an Army sniper. He said he'd advise his sons to do what he didn't do in the 1960s and refuse to kill innocent people in other countries just because your leaders tell you to.

He signed off by saying that he has four Bronze Stars and four children; Bush, Rumsfeld and Cheney are welcome to have the Bronze Stars back, but they're not getting his kids.

3. Good for them! The public needs to know about this outrageous policy.
And somehow I'm not surprised that these brave kids are from Lawrence. I used to live there, and I miss all the Dems... :patriot:

4. Excluding them from honor rolls because they don't want to be cannon fodder?
