Pedophilia?

Drudge is reporting that in Jim Webb's book Lost Soldiers (that John McCain praised highly), he has this quote, "A naked boy ran happily toward him from a little plot of dirt. The man grabbed his young son in his arms, turned him upside down, and put the boy’s penis in his mouth."

I assume the book really says that, but I also suspect it's a scene that reveals some bizarre cultural detail as opposed to something worse. Has anyone read the book? In what context does that passage appear?

It's a reality. You can't pretend this shit isn't out there, and you can't pretend that it might not get traction. That's what Kerry did in 2004, and it helped cost him the election.

posting anything on DU is an effective way to spread right-wing stupidy. And we need to be aware of what is out there and how to answer it.

A brief visit to the greatest page would find the excellent debunking by skinner. I completely disagree about the effect of regurgitating smears lies and distortions here on DU. It is one of the reasons why we have rules about supporting Democratic candidates here. Right now is not the time to be pushing Drudge smears, even if you are doing so with good intentions. Right now is the time to be encouraging everyone here to be working on getting out the vote, to be donating money, to be putting up signs, to be doing everything positive they can think of to get Democrats elected. It is not the time to be reprinting debunked smears. It is not the time to be accidentally or intentionally negative, spreading doubt, demoralizing.

You got questions about some crap Drudge posted? Try looking here first for the answers rather than keeping the crap alive and visible on the front page of DU.

The original post made it clear the person making it did not believe the slant Drudge was taking in the article.

DemocraticUnderground is presumably read mostly by its members and those with sympathetic leanings. If a smear campaign is underway -- and there are going to be many in the coming weeks -- our people should be made aware of what is being said and what rebuttals are available.

I find your response unfortunately similar to those who don't want anyone to mention the possibility of this election being stolen. After three stolen national elections I find the ostrich approach absurd. Damn right the Republicans will steal it if they can. We've done a piss-poor job stopping computerized voting, but we can at least keep our eyes open and catch them at whatever we can.

It may be different in New Hampshire, but I can assure you here in the South it is going to get very down and dirty before this campaign is finished.

That's exactly the kind of thing I was expecting, but was unable to find myself through Google. In another forum I participate in with liberals and conservatives, someone posted the Drudge link, and now I have the info with which to respond.
