Yes, Ladies and Gentlemen: It CAN Happen Here
I just caught some crap from a poster that thought I was being paranoid about the just-passed "Military Commission Act", which, among its many and varied abuses of the fundamental pillars of our Constitution, eases the way for The Smirk to impose martial law.

Think I'm paranoid?

In the mid 1920s, Germany was possibly the most liberal and tolerant country in the world: for example, German Jews married non-Jews roughly 50% of the time - same as in the US today. Germany was the center of the modern art world, and a home to much of the other avant-garde in the arts, such as Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill.

Within a just a few years came the concentration camps. Then the war to annihilate and/or enslave the Slavic peoples. Then the death camps, with their gas chambers, ovens, and other astonishing horrors.

Everyone here should read some good histories of what happened - it's amazing how quickly things can go bad, even in the most liberal and educated societies. As it happens, The Smirk is almost perfectly replicating the conditions that brought Hitler to absolute power in Germany.

Yes, it can happen here - unless we get up off of our asses and work to stop it.

1. It's either that or there will be another Civil war in this country....
If the Dems don't win....I don't think that that there will be peace in our country...I just have this feeling....

5. I agree. As I've said, it's gonna get a lot worse before it gets better.

The 50-50 split is merely wobbling as it continues to shift right ... it's not really shifting left whatsoever.

18. I don't even want to think about that.
We have to win. This country is being destroyed. We MUST regain control this time.

4. Germany was also the center of the
Homophile movement at the time, the then-current version of gay culture.

You are right. It happened then, and it could happen now. And there are a lot of people here who would let it happen.

certainly not completely off base, your comparison of Germany and the US is not complete without noting the entirely different histories of the two countries. Oh, yeah, and your not so bright comment about how it won't make any difference if dems are elected, sucked.

We all know what happened when the Nazis came to power. Many fled.

It didn't get much attention, but it certainly backs up your theory on many different points.

9. Fantastic Video
Reminds me:

From a conversation between Goering and one of his captors in the Nuremberg prison:

"Why, of course, the people don't want war," Goering shrugged. "Why would some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best that he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece. Naturally, the common people don't want war; neither in Russia nor in England nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship."

"There is one difference," I pointed out. "In a democracy the people have some say in the matter through their elected representatives, and in the United States only Congress can declare wars."

"Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."

15. That would be because your brain is functioning-
You are the exception to the rule when it
comes to Americans who wouldn't know
they had been taken over by fascists if the
criminal congress who allowed it, shat in their
morning Starbucks lattes.

12. Wouldn't he need to suit, some Neocons/Republicans
in order to actually make that happen? I mean he has an military where the Majority are Democrats, Our Democratic soldiers are not going to come to America and start taking Americans prisoner, I don't see it.

Maybe if * had more Neocons/Republicans in the Military, which he does not, we all know the Neocons/Republicans are only cheerleaders for the soldiers.

I just don't see how * accomplishes this with his 30% approval, who will do it for him? This all seems like a scare tactic 30% vs 70%. Come on.

16. stop it?
it's like an octopus...with tentacles reaching to every corner of the world... in secret. The enormity awes me. The billion dollar multi-national corporations, the entire industry's, the think-tanks, the nations involved, and in this country we have the little fishes swimming in a corner of the big pond, happily sucking up scum with blinders on to block what exists outside their periphery.

17. And nothing Hitler did in Germany was illegal
The German legislature made sure ANYTHING the Führer did was quite legitimate.

Those that confuse "it's right" with "it's legal" deserve what they get.
